I have a carpeted sub box on the carpeted trunk. What do you guys use to keep the box from sliding around? I don't want anything permanent, as I plan to remove it on track days. I was thinking velcro, but theres no way to attach the velcro to carpet and have it stick....any suggestions?

velcro works great. to get it to stay there, screw velcro into box. use any self tapping screw it should work just fine. i have done this to mine and my girls car and the box hasnt moved.

 

You have to bolt it to the trunk, that's the only way. If you attach it to the carpet then the carpet will just slide around with the box. I've been there and done that, it didn't help a thing.

My box is so damn heavy that it bends the cardboard and actually sits in the spare tire well, which keeps it from moving.

 

I have mine bungee corded. You can glue the trunk carpet in spots to the metal of the trunk, and then velcro the box down, that's what I plan on doing when I'm not lazy

 

well i made a board that folds in half that covered the whole trunk. it is made out of 1/2 plywood. i put some hinges on it, then i tacked the carpet down to it. that is why mine doesnt move, w/ velcro.

 

I used velcro as well, just get the sticky stuff, cut two pieces of the plastic mesh side, stick them together back-to-back, put it on the carpet, then put the box on top of that. To keep it from moving with the carpet, use the velcro between the box and the trunk side carpeting. This worked for me, but then again, I also have my amp bolted onto an MDF board, and stuck between the boxes, to push them outward.

 

Ah cool guys, I didn't think to self-tap the velcro to the bottom. Im just gonna self tap the carpet to the thick wafer-board thats under it.

If you dont drive too "sporty" you can use that stuff at Walmart that is made to keep rugs on wood floors and stuff in place. Its the least permanent, but wont work if you drive like a freak........

This is sort of my plan if I ever stop being lazy. Plus I'm trying to figure out if 1/4" would be sufficient since 1/2" seems to be extremely thick for this. I also want to be able to hinge the spare compartment instead of in half... so its all a matter of figuring out how to properly build it and be able to get it into the car.

 

i figured that a 1/2'' would be plenty, i also put golf clubs, tools box, etc back there so i wanted something that would hold up some weight. i just went and bought a 3'by4' peice of ply wood and threw the carpet over it and traced out the patern, then cut out the shape. you then could either cut it in half or whatever shape. hinge it, tack carpet down, install and be done. the thing that sucks about it, is it is kinda big and takes a min or so to get it back in the car without missing anything up. my cut was side to side, driver to passenger. it works great, and when taking it in or out im never really in a hurry. it only comes out when autoxing so i got all the time in the world.

that would work, but he said he wanted to make his install as reversible as possible (no permanent changes to the car, or drilling holes all over the trunk)

 

I tried L brackets and tried to attach them to the cardboard piece and it doesn't work at all. I am having the same trouble with the box moving. I think i am going to put a new piece of plywood in the trunk and cut it to fit correctly and glue the carpet in place like Jaydogg did. Thanks for the ideas even though i didn't start this thread. I hope the new plywood will work and i hope that it solves everyones problems as well.

 

when i had my system in my old sentra ( 97 xe ). the box was huge. i took a couple of pieces if 1/2 plywood. shaved the bottom to form to the trunk and carpeted that. it was two pieces of wood. one between the box and the rear seat, and one that wrapped around the front of the box. had another piece of that was angled a little with the amp on it. looked awesome, everyone though it was a pro job. best part was you only needed to disconnect the cables from the amp to get it all out, and that nothing was attached to the car. wish i had some pics of it.

 

I used 1/4" masonite and made a new platform for the trunk floor. Then I screwed in a 1" strip of wood to it to raise the front of the subwoofer box (because for some reason, the floor of the trunk slopes down toward the bumper a little) After that, I threw the carpet back down, put in the box, and used two brass L brackets to screw the sub box into the strip of wood under the carpet. Never moves, and haven't put any holes in the chassis.
