I was telling my friend how the Sentra in Japan was named the "Sunny" and how wimpy I thought that was. However he then asked me if Sentra means "Sunny" in Japanese. I was unable to find anything on the Internet about it.

Does "Sentra" mean anything in Japanese or is it just a made up word?

True, true... In some languages words that end with "a" are considered to be of female gender... Marketing trick?
lol, whenever I hear Sentra and Altima all I can think of are a bunch of beer commercial chicks just because of the 'a'.

From what/if I can remember, Names in Japanese always end in a vowel in spelling and sound. Like my name in Japanese would sound like Patrickoo

aaaa this topic again if remember correctly there is a thread on this somewhere.......I might be wrong on this, but i dont remember that the sentra was another name for sunny. if i read correctly on that thread a while back, nissan just named the sentra whithout any meaning behind it, just plain "SENTRA" and that the sunny had no correleation except for the engine because its a totally different car., but i might be wrong..........

well

most toyota cars are named after a Latin word

ex: Supra
In latin supra means to surpass, stand above, greater

you can find that it is the same in celica, corolla, and a few others

I have no idea about nissan, but i would be hard pressed to not imagine the name has it's roots in latin or another romantic language. Closest i can imagine for sentra would be sentry, which is someone who stood gaurd or kept watch. I doubt it though, it is just a guess, thats what i get for taking latin throughout highschool...
heh

Okay so what about other letters? Okay, lets try E. Corvette, Chevette, Grand Marquis (okay but it sounds like an E), Cherokee and Grand Cherokoee, Eclipse, Ferrari (sounds like E) :) Tahoe, Protoge. Okay O, hmm....Silverado. Okay about about other car types that don't end in vowles? Suburban, S-10, Escursion, Exporer, Ranger, RSX, NSX, TSX, Pathfinder. Okay so yea most of the Japanese cars that are imported end with A. What about the ones imported from Europe?
