Just replaced my driver side control arm, I replaced the passenger side a while back and my mechanic said I don't need a wheel alignment because i didn't replace anything anything that adjusts the alignment. Before replacing it the wheel was straight and no uneven tire wear. When driving on ow the wheel is slightly to the right and when I put the steering wheel straight the car goes to the left and it's even more noticeable on the highway. Also the driver side tire looks to be straighter now then it did before, when I had the car parked in my driveway it always looked like the driver side tire was a little crooked but the steering wheel was straight but now both tires look the same. Sorry for the long read.

Your mechanic is correct however based on what it's doing I'd definitely get an alignment
