What do you guys make of the Focus SVT?

Just wondering what you guys think of the 2002 Ford Focus SVT. I think it's body styling is fugly as all hell (I've never liked the design of the Focus), but the interior seems to have some nice touches. It also looks to have some power:

I've actually been a member at the big Focus board for some time now. The buzz word around now is the SVT. However, I think there are more than a few skeptics out there.

Honestly, I think everyone was a little dissapointed when the specs. were released. In Europe, the "RS" version of the Focus has 230HP!! turbocharged Zetec and a top speed of 151MPH. Having only 170HP makes it seem like a dissapointment by comparison.

In addition, the SVT has no LSD and weighs 200lbs. more than the standard ZX3. Some people ran the car's numbers through car test and came up with a 15.8 second 1/4 mile. Not too impressive if you ask me. There are N/A ZX3's on the board that would already kill the SVT. Heck, the fastest bolt-on upgraded ZX3 is running in the 14.7 range, with about 140HP at the wheels....and that included NO internal motorwork.

What's more, Ford had to shift redline WAAAAY up to 7400RPM to get this added power. In essence, they turned it into a Honda motor....VVT on the intake, super high redline, and peak power that hits late. Heck the Se-r has a confirmed 35 ft./lb. torque advantage over the SVT!!

When the Se-r hits the road, the SVT Focus will be just another car. The Se-r will be faster overall and a better daily driver thanks to all that extra torque. Now, the real trick will be if Nissan can price the Sentra the same as the SVT. If they do that, the SVT will really be in trouble.

I think the introduction of the SVT is a good thing. The trend I see is that many manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon for "pocket rockets" again. The VW has upped the HP on their GTI's to 170, Mazda now has a performance version of the Protege - the MP3, Nissan has introduced the SER, and the New Integra - RSX is gonna be a butt kicker too. With more competition out there, things can only get better...
lower price, more upgrades by manufacturers to try to stay on top, etc. My choice out of all of these cars is still the SER of course.
i have to agree maxxim. i think the svt is a joke. i do like th RS quite a bit. I like the focus design, just not the drivetrain or interior. not to mention all the reliablilty issues and recalls it's had.

But the new Integra looks soooo bland though. Honda, and most other car companies, seems to have lost all sense of style. It looks like a damned Civic, but, then again, they are based on the same chassis

While we are on the subject of the RS-X....The guys at ClubRSX are trying to get a special edition "CLUBRSX" RSX type S built by Acura!! I have to say this is a very adventageous effort. It will come with a body kit, Tenzo R wheels and a host of other performance goodies. It will be nothing short of a miracle if they get it to happen.

it looks like inbreeding between first cousins, the civic and the teg.
i've also noticed alot of manufacturers taking interior styling que's from the new celica's. too bad their tranny's are the weak link.
