2003 Sentra 2.5LE automatic transmission with 80,000 miles

While I was stopped at a red light, all of a sudden the engine revved to about 1500rpm-2000rpm and the car was inching forward as my foot was on the brake pedal lightly. I had to stomp on the brake to not hit the car in front of me. I then felt a jolt and the rpm went below 1000. This happened 3 times in the last 6 months or so. Do I have transmission problem?

Also, I sometimes hear some rattling sound coming from the front when the A/C is on. I sprayed some lube on the serpentine belts and the noise went away.

Any advice would be appreciated.

dont let your automatic drive for you, put it in neutral so you can stop the vehicle!!!

its hard to tell if you were doing an idle bounce, and the load wouldve been absorbed by the tranny, by pushing the car forward harder. if you had an idle bounce, you could have a dirty/bad sensor somewhere causing the loss of idle, like dirty maf, bad crank sensor, etc. normally when idle is lost, the rpm will bounce up and down somewhere between 1000-2500 rpm, in which case you could try doing all 3 relearn procedures that are in the fsm. just make sure your battery terminals are super tight, and has good ground contact. does it do this more often when you are using the a/c?

it doesnt sound like a tranny problem, although it could be, but do you have any ses codes for this problem? as for your rattling sound, its most likely your belt if you sprayed something and the noise went away. could be a bad pulley, loose belt, or even an a/c system that needs to be serviced/lubed up. when you get a belt, stick with goodyear gatorback belts, much quieter and last longer than most regular ribbed belts.
