new sentra owner here. just picked up a 2004 1.8s 129k miles to commute to work and noticed at idle it's around 800rpm but when I put it into drive or reverse idle drops a lot and get a real annoying vibration and back smooth when in neutral

This used to happen on my B13 cars. Back then it was usually a problem with the MAF sensor or a dirty throttle body. Do you have access to an OBDII reader? Some auto parts stores may let you borrow one to check if there's any codes or analysis.
I have a reader but no lights on. I'll still check it tomorrow when I can.

I only get vibration when it's in gear and at a stop. but driving and park/neutral is smooth

Usually, when you have a vibration that occurs while in gear, it will be caused by either an engine misfire, something bent inside the driveline or perhaps internal damage inside the automatic transmission.

you don't make sense. if it was an engine misfire it would happen all the time, if something was bent in the driveline then it would happen while the car is moving and the same goes for if the transmission is damaged
