Define "a lot of internals". Because the amount of building you'll need to do depends on the goal you wish to reach. I'd say the weakest link in our engines ('02-'06 at the least) would be the rods, but you can use the '07 ones which are attainable. The pistons are pretty turbo-friendly (9.5:1 compression ratio) so if you don't want to push beyond 300-350whp I'd stay with stock pistons, granted a good tune and 93 octane fuel. Set the goals you're aiming for, then build accordingly...Just finished doing research, looks like a lot of internals have to be changed, never realized how many problems QRs had...
I believe Treadstone's kit is rated for 280ish whp running around 8 psi....which isn't bad for a bolt-on kit IMO. I haven't ordered one myself (would love toi havent ordered from them, but they do have the best complete turbo kit available. just remember, its not a high-boost kit, its just a bolt-on kit. its not to say you cant get a new manifold and bigger turbo, but if you dont have a goal output, you dont know where to start. i believe the treadstone bolt-on kit is already rated to 250whp, so like undertaker said, with some extra work you could be over 300whp. if you want like 500+whp, thats a totally different animal.
as for internals, aside from aftermarket, there's also parts you can use from other engines to match your goal output, parts from engines like sr20, qr20, frontier, etc.
