Just to let ya know, the vehicle can deliver excellent gas milage. I drove to North Caroling from Harrisburg. I intentionally tried to get the best milage possible. Probably averaged about 62 mph. -good weather, no wind, used a/c about half the time. 37.8 mpg no bs. It can be done. Car had only 900 miles on start of trip. 87 octane. I know it sounds like a fish story, but like I said I actualy tried for good milage. I do have syn oil in the auto trans and engine. That might be 1 or 2 mpg.

Damn!! on an automatic?? that is awesome!! I might be switching to synthetic, I'm not sure though, anyone have advice on what kind to use? also how often should i change my transmission oil/fluid?? i have a manual, so is this even necessary??
My SE PP with auto got 35.6 mpg on a recent trip from Fresno to Sacramento, about 200 miles, cruising at 70-75. Had about 900 miles on the odometer at the start of the trip. If I'd held it down to 65 or so, it probably would have done 36 or 37mpg.
During high speed cruise, automatic's torque converters lock up and eliminate all slippage, so mpg can be just as good as with a stick.

On my 320 mile trip from Dallas and back, I got a best of 32 mpg going 80-85mph

Man, the best I have ever gotten is 25 on my 2001 auto. That was with a good portion of it on highway. I'm hoping that my milage will improve as my car finishes breaking in. I've already got 2,800 miles though. Maybe the first oil change will help. Does Nissan put some really heavy oil in there from the factory? Synthetics could help but I aint changing to that for another 6,000 miles.

The stuff from thefactory is not thicker. As far as I know it is just 5W30. In the old days they used to put a lighter oil in for breakin. I have been told it was 10 wt. My experience is that milage does not really improve after say 1000 miles. Thats just my experience. Someone told me that to get good milage you have to treat the acceleratorlike there is an egg under it.
