im having a problem with my manual trans.
i was driving for a while when my trans started acting up. it wont go in gear right then i would end up grinding it. do you think its the clutch? i just got the car a month ago. do you think i should change the fluid? do you think i should bring it back to the dealer for check up? i dont know what the heck to do. it seem like it does this whenever i've been driving for a while.
does anyone else experience this?

Never happened to me. It should not grind when you put it into gear. If your fluid level is OK, perhaps it just needs a clutch adjustment. You re under warranty take it in and have it checked. Adios Amigos

I would either think its your clutch cable or your synchros is going in your tranny. Having a low oil level can cause the synchros to wear faster.

Actually the clutch is now a hydraulic system so it wouldn't be the cable because there is none. This sounds like a bad tranny. There is no reason the fluid should be changed yet and the level should be the same as it was when the vehicle was delivered. Since your car is so new, I would put some pressure on Nissan to replace it.

Get it back to the dealer. Never-never-never grind the gears. This should never happen. Before your warranty is out- (you might have already caused damage depending on how many times and how badly you've ground 'em) - I would go to an independent garage with a good mechanic and have him change the trans oil and see if there are lots of chips on the magnetic plug. (I assume it has one) If there's lots there- have mechanic verify that and take the chips into the dealer. Don't want to scare you and you are probably OK.

I've had a hard time getting it into first sometimes from a stoplight. This seems to happen only when the engine compartment is completely heat-soaked. Example: over 80 degrees ambient temp, A/C running, etc.

Hasn't happened very often though, for the most part these transmissions are very fluid.

I washed my car yesterday...does that count as a modification?
Doesn't putting it into 2 nd and then shoving it up into first help? I don't have the manual on my SE but thats what I've done on all my past 4 and 5 sp manuals.
