So I'm driving home tonight and my temp gauge is up and down, from half between H and peaking it back down to where it normally sits. So I get home and I can't get it into diagnostic mode or whatever its called. Now I have done this several times so I know how to do it, but now the SES light just stays steady. Anyone know what the f is going on here.

I got in and it giving me an engine over temp code, why would it be overheating like that, I could see the thermostat going but it would stay hot right? not fluctuate?

This is obvious-but make sure the radiator (not the reservoir) is completely filled-when the car is cold. Other than that-it could be the stat. But usually the stats either stay closed or open. If they cycle -they are usually O.K.

Could be preignition heating things up. Did you hear any knocking??

No knocking, but the radiator was low, I filled it up and it seems to be okay. My question now is where did it go?

No misfiring, I'm bringing it in anyway.
