Just got this car 2 weeks ago. didnt get to really drive it but thats pointless now.

So it overheated last week. that time the water was hot and the gauge was high. It was just in the driveway so I shut it off.

I noticed the fans were not working. but odly they did the last time the day before.

So I decided because of the age and the fact the car had been parked a few years that some things were probably bad and needed replacing.

so I got a new thermostat and new fans . installed them. added water . started car.

fans came on with the AC like they should and they came on when car warmed up. all looked ok.

then it got hot again. shut it off.

now I checked the overflow tank and the water was cold. I checked the lower hose and the hose was cold or rather ambient temp and not full of water . I checked the top hose and it was barely warm.

so Im puzzled. Ive never had a head gasket overheat problem so I dont know what happens in that event . the oil is clean and regular...no milky to it. car itself has power but I only did a few circles in my cul de sac...lol...

So I am wondering if the stat was bad or if the radiator is clogged up. water is not circulating I dont think. or is it the pump?

i have had about 25 cars in my life and never had overheat issues except once with my silverado and that was the radiator.

I would try flushing out the system and when you fill it up with coolant before starting it, Go to a Part's store and find out if they have a loaner tool that you hook up to the coolant system that will purge it of extra Air trapped follow the directions and if nothing else wrong no corrosion or Head gasket issues, it should help. Good Luck 馃

but I am hoping it was just a air pocket lol
