speaking of competitions, did anyone see the new AD in the latest SCC magazine for the "Sport Compact Car Track Attack" event sponsored by the SCCA, Mazda, and Toyo tires to name a few. this looks like an amazing event to take part in. its pretty much a Solo I event but the catch is, it takes place at 3 different tracks over 3 days! :D

it seems like the only way to get more info is via an email: [email protected] . there doesn't appear to be any supporting website or specific contact at the moment. the only other information in the AD is that it takes place from October 16-17. but those dates don't make much sense seeing as they said 3 tracks over 3 days.....but that time span is only 2 days....go figure.

I've always maintained that the SpecV in D-Stock (DS) is the only b15 that has a fighting chance at nationals. Here's a quick pic of the event site...Forbes Field in Topeka, KS:

DS always has an interesting mix of cars, just take a look at what DJ is up against:

I don't know about you guys but the cars running in DS looks very similar to what you see World Challenge Touring Car. I just wish there were more SpecVs running. :(

My SE-R would get spanked in STS at nationals, and I'm close to reaching the limit on what's allowed in terms of mods. This is why I'll be codriving Tony's Si next year at the 2005 event, it's the ringer car for STS. Stock I would be in GS and would not do well against the Cooper S or Celica GT. The SE follows the same classes, and would do better but still not enough to place in the top half. The QG guys could make a run at HS, but those with the right parts are far and few between. Overall the b15 is really too heavy to compete with older lighter cars that usually also have a better power to weight. But the specv is kind of an exception, it has a several key features that make it ideal for autox, notably the hlsd, torque, and 6spd.

Good luck to both DJ and Bob in Topeka, 9/14 - 9/17.

Good luck. Wish I could take mine to nats this year but budget won't allow me to. 2 people to talk to while you are there though in DS, Mark Daddio (multiple time national champion in several classes) and G.H. Sharp (don't know him very well but is really good). They should be able to give you some good help. Look for Mark Daddio to take first place in the SRT-4 though. Not because of the car, he is just that good.

Bob is my Co-driver

I was a little late in signing up this year, but I'm on the list now as well. Bob and I decided to drive his car vs. mine this year. His 03 is important on the south course where the specV is at a huge disadvantage on gearing. I've had my car on the south course at forbes 4 different times now and I'm always stuck hitting the rev limiter 5+ times or shifting in a bad spot.

I blew my easy chance at a trophy last year on the second day so I'm hopping to do better this year. I'm also looking forward to meeding kev, DI, and DJ this year!

Anyone know who Bob Harsh is? Maybe a user on this forum? Last year there were three SpecVs, and they did ok, 19th, 21st and 24th out of a total of 35 drivers in DS. Here's a look at the official results:

Also, here is the complete entry list for this upcoming 2004 Nationals:

Thanks everyone for posting and good luck to DJ, Todd, Bob and Justin in particular. It doesn't get any bigger than this for SCCA Solo competition, and D Stock has turned into an "amateur World Challenge" and should be an exciting class to follow.

Since the last entry list post, the number of drivers has increased to 45. There are now FOUR Sentra SpecV's registered, including a new entry, Eric Kriemelmeyer from the Washington DC area.

Some observations: the four specv's are split on tire choice. I know DJ is going with the Hoosier S04, while Bob and Todd are probably using either the Kumho Victoracer, V700, or V710 if that's even possible. Whether Eric has S03's or S04's like DJ is anyone's guess.

Outside of Nissan land one of the first entries to note is the 04 Saturn Ion Redline, which should be interesting, especially with Hoosier tires. I still haven't seen one on the road here in Charlotte, and wonder what the supercharged Ecotec engine is like.

The Neons are scary, mostly because the 04 models have a limited slip and more hp among other things. If memory serves me, they come stock with some very skinny 17" rims, which will undoubtably result in some bulging sidewalls, so that may be one hindrance.

The 3series, ITR and IS300 are the "older" cars, and traditionally have done quite well, with a 330Ci getting 1st and 3rd last year, while the ITR grabbed 2nd, 4th and 5th.

Again, good luck to all competitors, let's see a SpecV break into the top ten and make it a first for the b15 chassis!

In case any of you are unfamiliar with SCCA autox, I'll quickly break down the major allowable modifications in STOCK classes:

-> Tires (DOT legal R-compounds)
-> Rims (same size as stock, +/- 5mm offset, any construction)
-> Dampers (any aftermarket strut/shock)
-> Exhaust Catback
-> Front Sway Bar

Let's see how this translates to DJ's SpecV:

-> 225/45R17 Hoosier S04
-> Centerline RPM 17x7
-> Konis revalved with external adjustment F/R
-> Stromung Catback Exhaust
-> Nismo Front Sway Bar

LaserKC, if you have a chance, can you clue us in on which mods you guys are running? And if anyone knows Eric Kriemelmeyer and lives around the DC area, let's try and get him to post here.

->245/40 front, 205/40/17 rear Kumho V700's

->Velox Vx6-R 17x7

->Moving my 50% stiffer revalved and externally adjustable rear konis to Bob's car, but keeping the stock front shocks. The reason for not changing the stock fronts is that I have aways run my koni's at full soft, and from what I've heard from koni our stock fronts a just about the same as the koni's at full soft.

->Nismo FSB

I'm hoping that I can keep the same tire stagger next year with the v710's.

I know this, but that is why I will continue to pray for rain. My tire budget just wasn't quite high enough this year.
