Hi Experts,

It started like one month ago. When I drive slowly (< ~ 20 mph), my Sentra suddenly die without any warning. I immediately turned on the power and the brake works okay. This happened like 5 times in a month. I was thinking about this is the issue related with the battery.

However, last night, I had very scary experience.
When I drive (~ 30 mph), my car totally die again. But this time NO BRAKE and No Power Steering at all. I saw "Red Brake light on" which we usually see it when I use the engine brake. Fortunately, there was no cars around. So, I was able to stop the car safely. I immediately able to turned on my Sentra again, but it was very scary moment.

Now, I'm thinking about this might be the issue related with the drive belts (Power steering and alternator belts, both)

What do you experts think about my issue?

I will post the follow-up later, if I get it fixed.

Thank you so much in advance.

you don't say what year, what engine Sentra you have.

However, any car will do this when the engine dies. the power steering is run from a pump which turns by the engine. the power brakes don't work either when the engine dies due to a lack of vacuum pressure.

Perhaps what you mean is why your car is dying? have your battery and alternator checked. Also, there are a lot of grounds to check.

what he ^^^ said, when your engine dies/stalls, you lose power steering/brakes/fluid pressure/etc.

again, no idea what youre driving...!?!?!

normally the belts will squeek or squeal before they become lose enough to slip. if you have a xe or gxe b15, you may need to tighten your belts.

if youre 'red brake light' is on, that means your ebrake is up, or there is something wrong with your brake fluid or hardware, not the abs sensors.

if youre 'red brake light' is on, AND your battery light is on, you need to repair your chrging system, maybe alternator/battery/or wiring in between

my 02 sentra cut off on me all of a sudden last week while on the hyway and has not cranked since. It did this about 2 years ago but it was still parked in the yard...one morning i tried to crank it and all it would do was sit there and turn over.I went and bought a crank and cam sensor and installed them and it still would not crank. So i bought a used ecm...put it in and wham she started up and ran for 2 years...so this time i am thinking may be the used computer has expired, and bought another used computer...installed it..and it still won't start up..now i will buy a crank and cam sensor and hope that is the problem and may be and obd2 just to have in the car because buying parts out of thin air will take it's toll on you.......anybody got any clues of whats wrong with tis car?

not sure why youre just buying random parts, didnt your ses light ever go on? if you keep losing ecu, you have a rusty box, or you have other electrical issues that are causing the ecu to fail.

you need to get the first clue: pull your ses codes with a obd2 scanner, or use the pedal dance to pull your codes if you dont have access to a obd2 scanner.

otherwise you need to decribe with more detail. does the motor turn over when you try to start? does it even stumble and shake? or is it just spinning smooth without attempting to fire? did you see your tach drop to 0 while the motor was running? etc...

sounds like you have something electrically wrong going on. make sure your battery terminals are super tight, and has good contact to bare metal. when the motor starts, be sure to check the battery voltage motor on & off.

if you didnt get any ses codes after your car shutoff while driving, that usuallly means the ecu lost power or didnt have enough power to control the motor, and was unable to store the ses codes.

are you sure your new ecu has the correct ecu part number? if you use the wrong ecu, the motor will spin, and may never fire properly. there are at least 6 ecu part numbers for the 2002 year.

still dont know what model sentra you have...? drive-by-wire...? qg or qr...? etc...

sorry it took me so long to respond, got it running aweek ago,it was crank sensor. When i ordered one off flea bay,it came DOD,was not any good and made in china.I went to the local advance auto and asked if they had any that was not made in china.Low and behold they had some made in mexico.Bought one and installed it she fired up and been running ever since.I will try and avoid any electrical auto part that's made in china.

yes, you must be weary of what comes from china, especially food! but we still dont know what youre driving, if you have a qg, you might want to change your cam sensor as well. it is easier to install than the crank sensor, but it too times your motor and on the qg is a common failure, and on the qr the crank sensor is common failure, so it is a good idea to just change both of them.

having issues with my 2002 sentra gxe 1.8l

was running fine and started sputtering going down the highway, was able to make it back to the house and started just fine the next day but cut off on me when going down the road. towed it back to the house and it started and ran just fine. decided to give a try again a few days later and it ran fine for about a day and a half then left me stranded on the highway not starting. towed back to the house again and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. started just fine and drove around the neighborhood, but on the way back it started sputtering very bad. a day or so later I replaced the crank shaft position sensor, and once again started and seemed to be running fine. drove it to work the next day and was yet again left stranded on the highway on the way home car just cut off from 60mph and would not restart. once again towed home. at the house checked the spark and no cylinders had any spark swapped a spark plug and once again no spark. frustrated, so i walked away for about 10 minutes and came back and all 4 cylinders had sufficient spark. car started and ran ok. haven't driven it since. this past sunday I went out to try and start it and it wont start at all now. cranks just fine and the spark plugs when removed are damp with fuel. tried it again yesterday and still will not start.
any help would be much appreciated.

its a 2002 Nissan sentra gxe 1.8L Manual trans.
