I'm looking at some Axis Touring Cups for my ride right now. What is the difference with 4X100 and 4X114? Do they both fit? I know the 4 is the lug pattern. Also, we have stock size 16's and 55 series tires. I'm sorta familiar with plus sizing, but with 17's, what is the biggest series I can get without increasing the total diameter or for comfort?

the 100 and 114.3 is the distance between the bolts themselves and 4x100's will not fit ourcars use 4x114.3mm ...Just to let you know you can do a 17x7 rim but I suggest using nothing bigger than a 215,,,,and also if you go with the 17's then i also suggest get a 40 series tires to keep your wheel height close to stock size,,,,assuming your using the 16's.....and as far as comfort goes I'm running 17x7's with 215 40/17's and the ride is ever so slightly harder not even that noticable at all.....

The proper plus sizing for a 17" rim for the B15 is 215/45-17. This will give you stock speedo readings and maintain the correct final drive ratio.

would a 205/40 tire work for 17's, because some rims come in packages with tires? I myself prefer the 215/40 but if the 205/40 comes in a package deal then i'll probably just have to settle with it not unless you can upgrade or something.

205 will work with 17's. All that is, is the width of the tire. More than 215 will be too wide, and even that will be wide and hit the inside fenderwell. :)

So, would I be reading faster or slower on the speedo? I wanted to hook up with some tires through Tire Rack, so I wanted to make sure. I probably want to go with the 45 series just to save more comfort. I bet the handling will already be superb.

The 205/40-17 will not work on your car. That is the size for previous gen Civics and B13 and B14 sentras. The B15 sentras have the overall wheel diameter as the 90-97 Accords. The older sentras had the same size as the Civics.

If you calculate the overall diameter of our wheel, you'd see that the 215/45/17 is the perfect size to replace the 195/55/16 tire that comes on the Sentra with PP or the 195/60/15 on the Sentra without PP. The 215 width will not hit the fender as long as you stay with the proper offset for the rim. If you order from a reputable wheel shop, they will know the proper offset.

Also, you should be able to upgrade the tires to whatever size or brand but you will have to pay more.

If you go to www.miata.net and go to their Tire Size Calculator, you'll see what I am talking about.

John's right. A 215/45 17 will give you only .7% odometer/spedometer error. That is about as close as you can get. A 205/40 17 will be around 2.83%. The only issue you might have is that with the increased width of the rim and tire, you could end up with some rubbing when at full lock. You might want to look closely at the wheels offset.

Russ said his 205/55 16's rubbed on the left side when turned all the way.

I repeat you will not get any tire rub with the 215's at all........
I am running 215's and I don't get any tire rub what so ever...

And also if you want to get the 17's get the 40 series to keep it closer to the stock height of the stock 16's.....

Sentra Styling-
215/45 is closer to stock height that 215/40.

Specification - Diameter - Circumference - Revs/Mile - Difference
195/55-16 ......24.4in ......76.8in ......825 ......0.0%
215/45-17 ......24.6in ......77.3in ......819 ......0.7%
215/40-17 ......23.8in ......74.7in ......848 ......-2.8%

In fact, since the 215/40-17 is SMALLER than stock, your odometer is going to be 2.7% higher than it should be. It's not by much but for every 10,000 miles you drive, your odometer is going to read 10,280

Great info John! Now for old gen Sentra's, such as my '95 GXE running 13 inch stockers, what was the effect of putting 205 40R 17's on her?? I believe the stock was 175 70R13's.
