Good Morning All

Newbie with my first post. Recently the “service engine soon light” light up on my wife’s 2002 Sentra. I plugged in the OBD II code reader but could not connect to the computer. Since then we a local mechanic has also tried to connect and read the code, but again cannot successfully connect. Occasionally the light will go out for a day or so, then light up again… so I am thinking that it is not a code but a loose connection or bad “module”. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is a fuse for the obd port, i believe it's one of the acc. fuses. have you checked you fuses? i would also make sure the ecu didnt completely corrode, sometimes when you cant connect the obd, its because of ecu failure. but check all the wiring and stuff. see if you can do the pedal dance to pull the codes. it's possible you have loose wiring. download the fsm, its around here somewhere for free, just search for it. the fsm shows which pins to check and has a small troubleshooting thing for the ecu.
