I have ordered a 2001 Sentra SE w/Perforance Package for my daughter. It will have the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System. I assume the car will come with 2 of the keys. What I'd like, is to have an extra one made. Has anyone had a new Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer key made? If so, what did it cost? Also, I picked up an additional Sentra remote key fob from eBay. Has anyone had one of the remotes programmed? Are there instructions on how to add a new remote or will the dealer have to do this?

I'd say for the key and remote, your dealer will have to take care of that. I haven't heard of any other store dealer do this. When I got my 2k1 SE, Nissan gave me 5 remotes for the car...it was weird because I found them in a plastic bag under the driver seat...so you might want to check.

Also, how old is your daughter? She must be a great gal for having her pop buy her such a nice car.

My daughter will turn 16 next month. The SE is for her birthday. I'm pretty much a gear head, and after alot of research, the Sentra SE was just too much of "bang-for-a-buck" not to order one. I had to order one to get the side air bags/abs. It's for my daughter so any available safety feature is a must. It will be tough not to try to modify the SE (when more items become available). I know my car came with 1 key and 1 keyless entry keyfob, and 1 valet key. The dealership also gave me an extra key and keyless entry keyfob, but as my dad works there, your mileage may vary. They are rather expensive, ~$50 - ~$75.

I've asked about that too.

If you want another key made w/ the immobilizer chip, then only your dealer can do that b/c they say it is for security reasons.

They are $90 CDN just for the key.

I've always wondered if it was possible to just have an extra key made w/o the immob. chip?

I always carry 2 keys on me just incase I lock myself out. One with the alarm fob and the other on my person. But then my car doesn't have the immob. feature.

It might be better to have another key w/ chip just in case anyways.

The dealer gave me 3 keys and 2 keyless entry keyfobs also...said because so exp to get another one they do that...just what he told me anyway

When I purchased my car, I immediately made a habit of locking my car with the keyfob only. I'm assured of never locking my keys in it, because if I reach for the keyfob and can't find it, I know I first need to establish where my keys are.

Also Azninvazion the immobilizer does actually work seing they had problems when they first was installing the remote starter on my car because of it and i did all the test as well
