why do you think you wouldn't be able to use the reverse lock-out if you were to change the shift knob. The knob has nothing to do with that.

Reverse lock out can be disabled from what i understand. And no none of those knobs will allow you to use reverse lock out. Only knob ive seen that works from Nismo is that funny ball looking one. They come in either white or black.

So once you do disable to lockout, does the car still get into reverse okay? and if so, is it possible (or likely) to accidentally put it into reverse while driving?

It should go into reverse fine. The lockout is there in case someone shifts into reverse while trying to go into 6th...... -____-

A safety feature I suppose. But as some have noted in different forums, better to keep this small "annoying" feature than risk the damage.

And yea, our cars do not have any other mechanisms that keep it out of 6th (push down to put in reverse or gate lock or something)...

Yeah on the 350Z you have to push down on the shifter to get it to go into Reverse.
