Sounds like you've suffered the infamous pre-cat failure. Unfortunately your engine is probably already ruined.

x2, if you got a new header cause the old precat failed, you def suffered from precat failure. if this was your case, the small ceramic particles from the precat entered the motor and probably fried the oil rings. valve seals are not common problems. when you floor it and get up in the rpm range, do you see a cloud of black smoke in your rear view? thats probably your oil ;) btw, are you losing any coolant?

the vq35 from the altima is not a direct bolt-in like the qr25 from an altima, you will need a swap kit, which includes some harnesses, mounting brackets, etc. there is also a particular year altima that will make the swap easier, so you dont have rewire all your sensors due to different harness connectors.

I'm surprised you can even stuff a VQ35 into a Sentra. It must be pretty incredible to have that engine in a Sentra considering how light the Sentra is. Then again the VQ35 probably adds a good amount of weight. I'd assume a VQ35 swap would require upgrading other drivetrain components like the tranny and differential.

there's a lot of vq35 swapped sentras, a few near me too. depending on the year of your specv, depends on which motor you can use, either altima or maxima motors.

it somewhere around 80 lbs to the front end, not terribly heavy. dont forget the vq is a fairly light motor for what it is. also another 75hp and more torque that you just swapped in. there are many videos and stuff on youtube, check them out. i know 2jr runs an altima vq in their race b15.

do some research, it bolts to the specv tranny, not sure if there's an adapter plate tho. but you do need some electroncs, def the ecu. again, you could research some of this info ;)

I don't see myself doing any engines swaps anytime soon. I wasn't really talking about compatibility as much as the ability of the Sentra drivetrain to handle the extra torque and horse power. However from what you're telling me I guess the Spec V tranny can handle it.

My car went ito limp mode, so i scanned it, it was my maf so changed that along with my cat. Car wasfine for a week, checked oil and it was at half, filled it up. Checked it a week later down to half again. There isnt much if any smoke, and my parkig spot at work is bone dry. Where would i find nissan engines and wheres the best place to get one installed. Thanks for your opinions and help

did you have a warranty? if so, you were within 90 days of your original purchase date when that stuff failed. not sure what state lemon laws you have.

what most likely happened was your maf was failing or failed, causing the motor to run rich and dump extra fuel onto the cat. unburned fuel is corrosive to the cat, probably causing premature failure.

if youre not going to rebuild that motor, and want another installed, i know 2jr does them, not sure how cheap or where you are located. any good mechanic should be able to swap in a motor for you. if you get a junk yard motor, whos to say it wont suffer the same fate as this motor. i would look for a reman motor or one freshly built by someone who knows what theyre doing. if you do want the vq35 swap, do some research on stuff you need. you can contact joe at 2jr, or someone at fi-r for info and prices. remember, the vq35 is not a bolt-in swap, you need a swap kit which include mounting brackets, harnesses, etc. if you are mechanically inclined, rebuilding your motor is the cheapest alternative, since you can use stronger headgasket, headbolts, etc. from the 07+ specv. also you change change out your rings and do a bsr so your oil doesnt burn so fast.
