Need some advice about buying a new Sentra...

Okay so the MSRP for the new Sentra SE w/ PP is around 17k, at least that's what the Nissan site says.

But I'm sure that whatever dealership I go to will have some kind of sale or something to get me to buy the car.

So my question is, what's a decent price to pay for this car. I've heard some ppl get it for anywhere between 13k and 15k. Whats the lowest price I can haggle for? (If any of you guys live in Florida like me than I'd really like to hear from you, especially what dealership you guys went to.)

Also, is Nissan still offering that special 3.9% financing for 60 months? I know they were advertising that in the newspapers a few months ago. Are they serious or is that just a gimick?

I want to say that that % rate was for the Altima, but I'm not positive. Start by offering something around 1,500 below sticker. Hopefully this post will be flamed with recent purchase prices. My method is to make an offer, then leave the dealership after it is declined. They will probably call you back with a counter-figure if they think you're serious. Don't fall obviously in love with the car. They crank them out every day. Let the dealer know (or think) that you don't need the car any time soon.

I wish my garage included '67 Toyota 2000GT, several years of 240Zs, my crunched '85 Supra, the last Supra and 300ZX Turbos, Lotus Elise, and my first, a '79 Celica GT.

Descent price would be $16,000 out the door. Bargain with the guy and follow up all the rules to buying a car for the best price.

I used Edmunds.com and you can get the price whis is the "True Market Value". That would be the highest you should ever pay. My method is to go to Yahoo yellow pages and look up all the Nissan Dealers within 100 miles. Call them, ask for a salesman, tell them what car you have in mind. Make them an offer, and tell them you know you can get a car for that price. Tell them that you have 20 more Nissan dealers to call and you don't have time for games. You can come to an agreement on the phone. If when you then go to the dealer and say the car has a scratch or something-the deals off. Listen to the other posters. This is how I do it.

I'm getting my 2001 Se with PP on Monday for $17497. out the door. That includes Se with PP,ABS,Sunroof, and Side air bags. This OTD price is $250 below the MSRP price. They are also changing the tires b.c my mom threw a fit about them being Firestones lol. They are giving me only $6000 for the civic so that means that Im actually have to pay $11,497 otd.

supposedly you're supposed to be able to get the car for a lot cheaper if you go thru costco. i didnt do it, but they hook you up with an authorized dealer that can give you the costco price

not a gimmick but the key wording is "SUBJECT TO APPROVAL".

This is what I did. First, I figured out the invoice price. Next, I sent requests to sites like carpoint.com to get an idea of what the going price should be. Then I called several dealers and asked what the 'advertising fee' on this car was (this can vary from market to market). I also got a dealer to write up a price sheet so I could see exactly what the tax, etc. amounts would be. At this point I knew all costs associated with a purchase. Remember, dealers also get holdback. For a car that just came in that is sold quickly the dealer would pocket just about all the holdback. In this case they might be willing sell at invoice or a little less. If you don't see what you want on the lot ask the dealer what cars are coming in soon. I never give dealers a deposit. Dealing on whats in front of you gives you more power.

Good Luck
