ok heres my story. i parked the car because i have been driving my truck for the past 4 months. just got the old girl back on the road (03 specv) now driving the car seemed funny. unusual deceleration. (almost feels like you turn the key off when not on the pedal) then when you touch the pedal it snaps out of that in a rough transition from decell to accel. things got a little worse today. idle was crazy. sounded like a massive cam lope. car was puffing back smoke. engine was loading up with fuel. stalling out etc. i plugged in my scan tool. zero new codes..... then i view live data and noticed that my lt knock ( long term knock) and st knock (short term knock) were active. lt knock was pulling 20 degrees of timing ans st knock was varying 10.9-15 degrees. wot throttle going down the road i get zero knock retard from several data logs that i did today.

has anyone else had this problem? i have the battery unplugged for now to try n reset the ecu. its just weird, i have had this car for 5 years now and never have i had trouble with it. kinda bummed out :(

sounds like you put cheap gas :X

but if youre having excessive knocks, it probably because the 02-03 specv have overly sensitive knock sensors. you can do the relocation as long as you use always use 93+ octane gas. hope you changed the oil and gave her a tune-up before you started it up, otherwise you will blow that precat very easily, if you still have one. you can use the search button in the menubar.

always ran good gas. car sat for some time empty topped it off with 91. drove it for a few weeks and then this happened. i did a throttle body relearn today and the car kept stalling during the process. not sure why. i get no codes from this. the car seems to be running better on the ride home from work. 1st 2nd and 3rd gear you can feel the ecu pulling timing. idk. i have a spare 02 specv outback gonna swap some parts around and see whats what

for the relearns, i would do ALL 3 relearns in order, since the car sat for a while;
1. accel pedal released learning
2. throttle plate closed learning
--warm up car to operating temp
3. idle air volume learning

the exact procedure is in the fsm, you can download them somewhere for free;
nicoclub.com/fsm
allsentra.com/fsm

but you are getting knock sensor codes. i would try and re-ground it, otherwise try doing one of the knock sensor relocation tactics or get a new knock sensor, and ground it well. you can use a scanner or pedal dance to clear your ses codes.
