Is it bad to drive with your rpm's up around 5000 without shifting for a while????? In other words, can our cars handle it?????

Before I give you an answer remember that I'm 55 years old (not necessarily smarter) and have been where you guys are now. I'm also hoping the car lasts 10 years. I plan on giving it to my daughter in about 5 years.

So here goes. Whats the value in it? At 2500 rpm lubrication is better than 5000 rpm. Since you are at a constant 5000 rpm there is probably not a whole lot of load which means bearings are not really getting killed. Using synthetic oil would help. But all in all it's not helping your ride a lot. If I weere making a guess I'd say a minute at 5000 rpm is probably like half an hour treating it gently. Thats only a guess.

Have a good Easter,
Al

Not to mention killing your gas mileage, thereby decreasing supply, increasing demand, and making my gasoline more expensive.

:)?
