I have two issues that have been starting to happen. When starting in morning sometimes it will stumble and die. After the second or third time it will stay on. The second is with the a/c turned on it causes the rpm to surge up and down(750-1250). Last year I replaced the maf with one from 1aauto. The symptoms were about the same last year except last year I was getting p0171 and p0174 code. I was going to go to the junkyard tomorrow to see if I can find a used oem maf. Is there anything else that could cause these problems?

you could try doing the 3 relearn procedures to see if that corrects anything, if youre drive-by-wire. but your idle 'surge', or idle bounce is from lack of engine control. there are many sensors/pieces that could cause the idle to bounce, like maf, tps, evap, cps, etc. i would say def get a genuine nissan oem maf, just clean it off with cnc maf cleaner, disconnect your battery terminals before installing new maf, then do those 3 relearns again to see where you stand. also, have you change your cam&crank sensors recently? what model b15 do you have? oil changes and tune-ups? new coils recently?

It is a gxe. The cam and crank sensor were replaced when the ecu recall ws done 2years ago. I have kept up with the tune ups. But no parts have recently been changed such as coil packs. I am going to the junkyard and seeing if I can find one this morning.

the startup in the morning with a stumble and die, could be a failing coilpack, usually its a misfire, but if more than one coilpack is failing it will die on you. however, the coilpack doesnt cause the idle to bounce. i would look for a genuine nissan maf. make sure your battery terminals are super tight and no corrosion, make sure the ground cable has good bare metal contact.

what year is your gxe? drive-by-wire or cable-driven? you may have a tps out or something evap going on, which would include the maf. make sure your gas cap is tight, and releases pressure when you remove it, also look for any loose or cracked vacuum hoses.

Sorry 2001 and cable driven. Didn't find any vacuum leaks the other day when I looked
ok so the relearns wont do anything for you. i would change out the maf for a genuine nissan one. you can get them at the yard, just clean them off with cnc maf cleaner and let it dry completely before you use it, remember to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the maf.

make sure you checked your battery terminals for tightness and good bare metal contact. then start looking for that evap leak, if its not the maf, it could be like the iacv or egr clogged up on you, maybe even a tps failure. does the idle bounce as soon as the motor gets started, or does it idle ok for a while, then start idle bouncing after you were driving it? btw, did you clear the codes and wait to see which ones come back? or any new codes?
