welcome aboard!

having oil or water on your spark plug can cause a misfire. it also depends on how much sludge was in the tube. when something like this happened to me on my honda, i got the shopvac, with a long attachment to reach around the spark plug and just sprayed degreaser in and used the vac to svck ou the sludge. please do spray **** in there if you can get it all out ;)

not onto the piston, spray degreaser in the spark plug tube on top of your spark plug, you dont want too much fluid on your cylinder. make sure your spark plug is torqued down, also make sure you have a means of removing the fluid. any small amount of grease or fluid that gets into the chamber will just burn away once the motor starts, so dont worry about a drop or two of degreaser on your piston, just dont flood the cylinder.

you other option, is using a long specialty tool, or removing the head in order to clean your sludge
