did it. but i used the snip and tie method. I will never want this feature back. Works fine, and now i can use the A/C for defrost only when i feel like it.

This would only happen to MY ***......

I tied the switch end together... not the other end.. so the end that actually functions has not been together, causing my A/C to be constantly on since i last posted...

DAMMIT....

Yes, the '04 has the same feature. I moved the switch and didn't mess with the wires. My first mod ;)

I wish I was gettin' my return...would have been $1300+ but $1060 goes automatically up to my kid...which is fine, you have to do the right thing, which reminds me.....keep that friggin' thing wrapped up tight!!!

my damn knob doesnt turn all the way to defrost, kinda fights the cable.. didnt figure anything out yet, tried to fix it while i had it apart.. from the looks, it appears to be on the other end of the cable sticking, not the switch end of the cable.. ill do a search and see if others have this.
i have somewhat of a similar problem
car is at the dealer right now to get fixed

if i put the knob to defrost, and it stays on that position for awhile, it gets suck, and needs some force to be moved out of that position...also, my temp control seems to only spew out the same warm air..doesnt blow any cold air, and that knob gets stuck too...

Exactly dude!! It aint nothing you can't fix your self tho.. its called a sticky cable.. i've taken it all apart and looked at it. But havnt taken the controls totally out to fix it properly. Mine wont even go all the way to defrost anymore.. just the notch before defrost.

There is a Nissan TSB for this:
http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/TSB/Nissan/54228.asp?mscssid=
NTB03005

IF YOU CONFIRM A 2002 or 2003 Sentra has any of the following symptoms: · Air flow amount is different between the left and right side of the center AC/Heater vents · "Flapping" noise from the center AC/Heater vents · Temperature Control (Air Mix) Knob is stuck · Temperature Control (Air Mix) Knob turns freely but will not change the temperature · Mode Control Knob is stuck Refer to this bulletin for detail information.

But BTW, this is NOT related to this 1 yr old topic. This problem was post over and over on the board so please search guys ;)

Are you serious??? Just go to another dealer... with the TSB, proove them it's a common problem NOT caused because you cut 2 littles wires for avoid the A/C kick-in on defrost.

havtn taken it anywhere...

when the open it and see i chopped wires, they'll tell me to get the hell out.. you cant chop wires in the car and expect them to fix it for free.. you know how dealers are.. they'll say that mod affected the problem.

No but PRINT the TSB description from the NISSAN techinfo site. It's a PROOF this is a recogonize problem by Nissan and they are gonna do the work under warranty.

You don't need the full TSB anyway because they will order a brand new HVAC unit...

SWITC Removal

Can you just remove the switch from the housing in it's entirety but still keep it connected. From the way you showed the pictures you could do just that.

You are puting the zip tie in because you don't want the metal peice to close, correct.

don't own a sentra i just work on them.

I just removed the switch, yes, just keep the switch from closing is fine. I used a twist tie to attach it to the wiring so it doesn't bounce around.
