I've been luking anonymously here for about a week now and I must say this a great board. I'm 95% sure I will be getting a 2001 SE w/PP 5sp. and Sunroof. I also planned on getting the ABS/Air bag option as well, but the guy who is doing the deal for me (knows the dealership manager) said that the manager was curious as to why I wanted ABS brakes with a 5speed???

Is this a relevant question? I really never thought about it before. I wouldn't think it would matter what trans. you had, but maybe I'm wrong. Could anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks.

sounds like an assenine question to me. (from the guy, not you)you are correct, ABS and 5 speed have nothing to do with each other. i have both and prefer the safety and reduced insurance premium of having ABS.

ABS is worth it. It saved my life (and the car) once. Side impact airbags are nice to have also.

Sentra SE, Jaded, ABS, S airbag, Nismo rocket booster. TypeR sticker, Models in swim suits.
I bought a Sentra SE w/PP, 5spd with Side Air Bags/ABS. They do seem pretty uncommon on dealer lots. This was the first one I've ever seen. For only $699 MSRP, you get added safety, plus lower insurance rates.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer you talked to didn't have one with the ABS and was trying to sell you something they had in inventory. A Nissan dealership I went to about a month ago tried to pull this.

Technically performance vehicles don't have ABS braking systems.

There is a marginal power drop. Cars like Ferrai's, Lambs, high end Porshes, etc... don't have ABS because it adds weight, I think. (Or take more space than conventional brakes and they'd rather have that for engine room?)

Anyway, I would never buy a car now that didn't have ABS. In a bad situation they allow a degree of control that isn't possilbe without the feature. In a hard stop you will thank those brakes for allowing you to turn and dodge a car.

I'd leave the side impact bags out though.

Get all the safety features that you can.

It might save your life one day.

Thanks for the responses...and I agree, I want them for the safety factor. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something about the connection between the two.

Actually, some high perf cars do have ABS. It is used in traction control systems, such as BMW's 330Xi I just read about.
