I noticed that sometimes when I break and turn at the same time I hear a sudden grinding/vibrating noise. At first I thought I drove over a grill or something, but I didn't. I heard it about 3 or 4 times since I've had the car (1.5 weeks). Is it because the car is cold (I've been driving it for mainly short trips, just a couple of miles)? Or could there be something more serious behind this noise? The car has around 220 miles on it, 140 of them driven slowly by me (80 before I got it). Anybody know if this grinding is normal with new cars, or at least a known thing with the '01 SE? I'm gonna call the dealer and ask in the morning, but I thought I'd see what all of you experts in here think.

that happens to me sometimes too. It usually starts when Im drving fast and come to a quick stop, after that every time i hit the brakes they grind. I turn the car off then back on and it stops.. Im not sure what it is because I've never brought it up to the dealer.

Mine grind when I first get in. I work at home, so I don't drive every day and there is usually a little bit of rust built up on the disk. The first few times I use the brake it grinds as the rust is shed off. This is normal though. Could it be anything like that?

A grinding sound when turning can be signs of a bad wheel bearing or CV joint or it could be just a warped brake shield.

Whenever it is raining or snowing...(When the brakes are wet) My brakes feel like they stick and they make a loud rubbing noise, but that is only until they warm up. Does this happen to anyone else??

RadiumSE, I think my problem could be like yours. I don't usually drive my car very far, and I did notice rust dust (nasty orange stuff) on the wheels. This is normal? I guess this means I just have to drive more. Darn!

This morning in the rain the grinding sound happened the first dozen times I hit the brakes, but I'm assuming that's cuz of the water and that the brakes just need to heat up a bit.

It is a bit disturbing to hear that noise, though...

My mom's car has that problem, but only when you jam the brake fully. It is the activation of the ABS system for her. She had a 94 camry, so ABS was somewhat new then. I don't know if this problem is anywhere related, but just to let you know that I have heard it before and on this car it is normal. Regular braking (w/o abs), you should not get these sounds.

MJ...i definitely have the same brake sounds when its been raining or snowing outside. The first couple brakes make that rumbling sound and then they are back to normal. Its just the moisture.

The only complain I have about my brakes is that now they are becoming a little bit too rusty for me. The rotors that is.

I don't have ABS, but yeah, that rust is kinda annoying. I'm just hoping it'll get better with time. Is this a problem that goes away with a lot of driving, or is this something I should just get used to?
