i just started driving my SE and the thing sucks up so much gas! i went 20 miles if not less and a quarter of my gas on the gas thingy was already gone! is this because it was my first time driving it and the engine needs more gas? i was hoping ot get at least 25 mpg

ABO, you are not alone. I heard after the break in period, you're supposed to see an increase in gas mileage. How are you driving you car? I know when I drive fast, it's gone much faster than when I put it in cruise on the highway. I'm not a quarter down yet, and I've got 95 miles on the tank already. Not sure about this tank at all, just going to have to wait and see. I drive like a maniac.

My Gas gauge has been a little less than accurate. It will usually stay above 1/2 tank until maybe 150~180 miles, and then drops like a rock to empty. Additionally, I can travel up to 90 miles before the needle moves off the Full mark. go figure.

My very first tank yielded almost 29 MPG. Since then, I've been averaging about 27MPG with a variety of city/highway/thrash driving.

My lowest average for a tank has been 26 mpg, but I drove to Boston (about 700 miles) and I averaged 31 mpg. Overall it doesn't seem to bad, and it apears to have increased now that I have about 5000 miles. The gauge appears to be inaccurate a lot. Today I went about 5 miles and it went from half full to 1/4 full during the trip.

it also depends on your driving style as well,,,cause when they test these cars for the mileage they drive strictly by the books and they never full throttle it so if you have a lead foot you'll almost never get what they list for miles.....

Wen my car finally gets out of the shop, he-he. I plan on using the car for mostly trips between Harrisburg, Pa. and Raleigh, NC. I also have a '94 Corsica 3.1, 160 Hp auto which gets about 34-38 on a trip. I'll be disapointed if this vehicle does not match it. I drive the speed limit except when I'm on route 95 (to survive) and should get the maximum it can deliver.

I wish I had your gas mileage. The inline 6 in my IS300 only get 18 miles to the gallon and my break in period I was getting maybe 10 if I was lucky!

I have a 5spd GXE. I can only get to 25MPG for in-town driving. Between 33-35MPG for highway @ 80mph.
My engine rev little below 3500RPM at 80MPH.
Is it normal? I tested drove two other 5spd GXEs, they all have high RPM like this.

Averaging 27 MPG and I do 'spirited' driving plus there's a fair number of times where I leave the car idling to warm up the interior.

Well, I just filled up my tank. I drove approx. 11 gallons last tank, and I got 250 miles on it. I probably could have put more in, so I'm thinking that I didn't get above 23 mpg. What the hell? I guess that lead foot doesn't help any, but I'm not sure.

I'll contribute to the folks who are getting the inaccurate fuel readings. Yesterday I filled up on Mobil Super+ (93) and after my 20 mi. trip home I was already down to the first line (on full its a decent way past the first line). Now this usually doesn't happen until atleast twice as many miles. Also I noticed today I'm getting close to down a quarter tank which usually takes a lot longer. It seems every once in a while this will happen. Overall the first half tank usually lasts a LOT longer... And I'm averaging high 20's mpg and I do VERY spirited driving (80-90mph every day)
hehehe
