Just bought a 2000 Sentra GXE about 2 months ago, and it's starting really make me angry. I thought it'd be a cheap economical car to beat around the city in. The CEL/SES light came on, and it started to idle really rough and stall at stop lights. This was happening in the 80+ degree weather, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Took it into a local mechanic, it was throwing a P1441 code, and they said it could be $900+ to fix, and that may not even solve the rough idle/stalling problem. I've cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner but that didn't seem to do much. I'm trying to keep the repairs as cheap as possible here but I cannot go to job interviews where I'll be stuck in traffic because the car will completely die on me. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Code P1441 Evaporative Emission Control System (Very Small Leak). Most likely the gas cap is loose. Check the gas cap first and resecure. Erase the code and drive the car. If the light comes back ON more test are need and the possible causes are:

-Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve.
-Incorrect fuel filler cap used.
-Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
-Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap.
-Leak is in line between intake manifold and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.
-Foreign matter caught in EVAP canister vent control valve.
-EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks.
-EVAP purge line (Pipe and rubber tube) leaks.
-EVAP purge line rubber tube bent.
-Blocked or bent rubber tube to EVAP control system pressure sensor.
-Loose or disconnected rubber tube.
-EVAP canister vent control valve and the circuit.

yea, you can clean out your iacv, and egr if you want. look around for a hose that is not connected to something, a hose that is cracking, or other vacuum component that is cracked or leaking. after checking under your hood, your evap canister is behind the driver-side rear wheel, check all that stuff too. something somewhere is leaking air/vacuum somewhere, sometimes you can hear it, sometimes you cant.
