I want to rewire the fog lights so they still work with the existing switch, but are independant from the head lights. In other words, I would like to be able to turn on the parking lights w/o having to also have the fog lights on. Any tips on how to do this?

I've seen this mod, but this requires that the fog lights come on with the parking lights. I would still like to be able to turn the fogs on or off with the fog light switch.

I did this mod. Your fog lights do NOT have to go on with the parking lights. They CAN come on with the parking lights if you leave the fog switch on all the time. Otherwise, you can still turn then on (only with the parking lights) and off.

its real easy to do.... i could have did it my ghetto way.... but i followed the tech article instead....

the tech article is very helful.... follow it step by step and you should be fine......

when doing this mod this is how the lighting works.....

instead of coming on only when the headlights come on... they come on when you turn the parking lights on..... but they wont come on alone..... only when you turn on the parking lights

I don't know about other states, but in California state law requires that fog lights must only be able to come on when the low beam headlights are on. This is why Nissan sets them up this way at the factory, as does every other car manufacturer.

Most aftermarket installers here in Ca are either unaware of this law or choose to ignore it because it makes the wiring process more complicated.

I don't necessarily agree with the law, by the way, just stating the above for informational purposes.

Parking lights are called parking lights for a reason. They indicate your car is PARKED. (Ever see the truckers at a truck stop?)
It's a saftey hazard to do otherwise.

Just like it's dangerous to use those super-insane eye-melting bright headlights all the time. They blind on-comming drivers!

I'm sorry, but some of the performance mods people do are just plain dangerous.

fabrini, tell me about it!!! i hate it when a truck comes up behind u with their high beams. their truck is high enough to blind u, and they have their high beams on. arggghhh... and u cant go behind them and high beam them cause they are too damn high off the ground to see u high beaming them.
