i will never order anything from x3 racing again, had problems with pipes cracking and he was nothing but a hassle and would not refund, repair, or replace the pipes within 30 days of purchase, even though it says they have a warranty, they will not honor it. not to mention the pics did not even come close to the product i received, missing and incorrect components, but he claimed it was just a pic for reference.

aside from that, they are cheap because theyre probably made in china. most likely the pipe istself is stainless, but the welding and pieces welded on are usually not stainless (ie flanges, o2 bungs)

Take this from someone who has ordered 2 of the chinese knock-off exhaust systems from ebay, "you get what you pay for". The first one I had lasted about 3 years and the second one lasted roughly 1 year. Picture piles and piles of low quality sheet metal and a 12 year old kid making your exhaust with a roll or a press and a mini-torch. He isnt thinking long term as in "I need to make a quality product for this business model to be viable over time to build a brand that people can count on for quality and consistency, so they can trust that their purchase led to an improvement over their current condition".

Not all chinese models are created equally though, as in @pple's work camps in China pumping out high quality technology in the EYE--phones and EYE--padz, or like the OBX line of aftermarket car parts. Their 4-2-1 header has worked well for me and I've not had any problems as of yet, and I have 100k+ miles on it--knock on wood.

To answer your original question, the product is so inexpensive because it is made with virtual slave labor combined with the lowest quality materials and poor design. Some people just dont believe it, so they order one. Some people are so stupid that they order it ONE MORE TIME. Some people just never learn and they will continue to buy the lowest quality / lowest cost item because they think they are saving money when in reality, you can actually pay more over time dealing with the hassle and time associated with car problems stemming from poor quality parts.

Someone once said something to the effect of --A smart man can learn from his mistakes. A smarter man can learn from the mistakes of others.-- You figure it out.

I wouldn't cheap out on an exhaust considering doing up the exhaust will give a considerable power gain... The eBay brands jst isnt quite up to par with those with a brand name
Unless you want an exhaust system that sounds ricy or like a fart can with ****ty welds and the thought of always worrying about an exhaust leak then go for it but I'd personally would go with something that actually has a name for a quality exhaust

I have a decent set up using a mix of ebay and magnaflow. I forget the part #s, but the exhaust consists of a 4-2-1 ebay header, with a vibrant high flow cat, an 18" magnaflow resonator, and some magnaflow muffler with a nice 3" single tip welded on.

Unless I open up the throttle, the car is pretty quiet. Cruising I don't even hear the exhaust. Although..I do seem to have very tiny cracks in the header tubes right near the manifold..so I wouldn't really recommend ebay headers either.

When I had 100% ebay exhaust, my car was LOUD no matter what. Definitely would not recommend that.
