So...here's a fun little story about my situation with my Spec V.

When I got back from Afghanistan, I went to trade my Spec in on a 350Z. They said they couldn't take it. Come to find out, at that point, my ex-wife hadn't paid the bill in over a year.

Company never called me, never repo'd it, never sent me a letter, nothing. At this point, it probably hasn't been paid in over 2 years and, as it's my only car, I don't want to call them and have them go "oh...what's your address?"

I recently found out why they never did anything and I'm not afraid they're going to take it.

But...here's what I wonder: Other than calling them, what else could I do? That's all I can think of. Let's see if anyone else has anything else.

Man that sucks. Well here is the problem I see, if they are the lien holder on the vehicle that means technically they own the car.

So if you are knowingly driving around in a car that you don't own......

Having said that, who knows. Sometimes banks will just eat the loss and move on. Do you have the title? If so, does it show a lienholder on the title?

That was a dumb question on my part, because if the vehicle is financed there most certainly will be a lien holder.

I don't know man, this is an unusual situation. I think you need to contact the bank at some point...more than likely to surrender the vehicle to them.

Perhaps if you explain to them what happened they will allow you to continue making payments, but I am doubtful they will allow this.

I don't see many good options for you. You can't sell the car, because it isn't yours. Technically, if there haven't been any payments made in almost 2 years the bank is probably either currently looking to repossess or has tried to in the past.

Personally, I would rather call the bank and try to work something out than worry about possible legal/financial issues with continued driving of that car....but that is just me. I see your point too...this is your only car and you need it to get back and forth.

Tough situation, but it could go from bad to worse depending on what the bank has done on their side. If there is no car payment made for 2 years the bank might start to view that as a stolen vehicle...and can you imagine getting pulled over and arrested for something as crazy as this?

Just keep driving it and act like you have no idea about any payments or title... blame it on your ex wife. she told you that she paid it off!

go renew the registration before it expires

LOL its been 2 years if they wanted it they would have come for it already.

I think that the loan was probably sold between banks who now cannot decide who actually owns the loan therefore nobody can legally repossess the car.
