Hey all, over the last few months I've been considering what radar/laser detector system to purchase as well as what features are important to me. I've come to decide upon the purchase of a passport concealed unit for ease of operation irregardless of installation difficulty. Anyhow, in checking EscortRadar.com yesterday I came to find out that they now offer an SR7 kit with laser 'shifters' included. My understanding was that, what this unit is supposed to do is exactly what the SRX unit is supposed to do which is detect radar/laser as well as shift laser. My question to those that may know is what are the technical differences between these two units (Aside for the appearance of the concealed displays and the ability to mount the SRX vertical)? Thanks to those that can clear this up for me.

Also, if anyone can offer additional resources for research other that radartest.com, radarbusters.com, epinions.com I'd definitely appreciate it.

SRX can be found here.

SR7 with Shifters can be found here.

Cheers.

Hmmm...

I was really considering just getting an Escort 8500, hardwire it and be done with it, but what changed my mind was:

1. With a concealed unit, I never have to worry about setting it up or taking it down every time I get in the car.

2. From just looking at the car, you'd never know it was there when I'd have the unit working. I just keep having visions of my cruising down the road, and officer seeing my unit on the window and getting hassled, let alone thought of being guilty of wanting to speed and taking up countermeasures for not getting caught just because I have it in my window.

3. With on of those units, it'd get warning of radar just as with a window mounted unit as well as a laser defense system.

To be honest with you, this seemed like a more robust and well rounded system. I generally don't drive faster that I either have to or that's posted, but I do know, when I'm on my usual drives from Boston to NY on I-95 my speed tends to dip upward a bit; as that's just the way traffic flows sometimes. Nonetheless I'd like to have something well rounded and as intgrated as possible. The list price on the site is quite high, but the systems can be had for less.

Anyone using one of these systems?

the center console was VERY easy to remove...
1. pull off bottom covering over extra tray.. just pulls off
2.unscrew 2 screw attching a/c control panel
3. pull from top bin towards the seats... this removes the top piece, air vents, radio cover, and a/c controls
4. undo 2 bottom screws and 2 top screws.. this rmoves the metal brakcet around entire inner console.
5.remove flasher buttom by pushing in the tab connecting the button in the rear (allows for more room to move everything around)
6.everything including radio now pulls out.

Thanks 2KBlackSE.

Anyone else with any insight on the radar/laser systems? Anyone think I'm crazy for wanting to do this? C'mon, let me here what your opinions are.

Yeah UnderJerseySkie, the units at list price are freaking expensive. I would definitely try to get the units at a lot less cost. Which I have seen quite a bit. Conversly I love the idea of the whole system being concealed as much as I like to have a system that performs well.

Do you ever feel wierd having your unit attached to your windshield? And having to remove it or reconnect it when using your car?

I've also considered just purchasing an 8500 or 8500X50 unit (~$300) and then the ZR3 laser shifter system (~$500) which plugs right into the 8500 so there'd be no need for a second display. That'd definitely be cheaper.

And yes, I am somewhat of a gadget nut, but who isn't!
