Kinda weird how you feel that your XE is so bumpy. The XE/GXE models were more for luxury and comfort than performance like the SE suspension. What kind of car did you have prior to your Sentra? I know whenever I ride in my mom's 1993 Toyota Camary XLE V6, you don't feel anything. No bumps, no nothing. I felt kinda unattached from the road. It all depends on what you're used to, and what you're comfortable with.

Okay, as far as faster, you have to ask yourself what is my goal for my car. Are you looking to run 9's in the quarter, or are you just trying to pep up with a little mild tuning? These are the things you need to know, because you can easily spend tons of cash modding your car. Also, are you working on cosmetic or performance, or both? I'm going performance to start with my SE, because I worked on cosmetic and luxury with my old GXE first. Let us know what peaks your interest, and we can help lead you in the right direction!

One last note, a member of these boards purchased a Place Racing Cold Air Intake for his GXE and had little trouble if any with the installation, and that to me would be, in my opinion, a defintely good mod for the buck. The GXE and XE both run the same engines, so this mod does apply to you! What a cold air intake intails, and you can search for it too, is removal of your stock airbox, making the hole where your plastic tubing goes to your fenderwell of your bumper, and running a mandrel bent tube with an air filter attached all the way down there. What this does is allow for colder air from the outside of your car to be used instead of the hot air underneath your hood. This makes some pretty decent gains in power. I know that sounds like mad **** right now, but trust me, do some research on this site, you're bound to find info up the yinyang! :D

Welcome to the boards!

Here's the order I'd recommend:

1. Intake
2. Cat-back
3. Headers
4. Pullies

Throw advanced timing and a short-throw shifter (do they make ones for the B15 yet?) in there somewhere.

no turbo for the XE yet. There isn't an official turbo for the SE yet either, and that shres the powerplant of the classic SE-R. Jim wolf is probably going to be the first to release it for the SE. You would probably have to work out a custom job.

A CAI will cost you about $200 + shipping and tax unless you get it used. Custom exhaust system is about $500 +-. I was thinking of getting the 5zigen univeral and getting a custom piping job, I got quoted $260 for the labor and pipint; I had to supply the muffler.

I don't know anything about the headers and pullies. for the XE.

Stands for "cold intake of air". Didn't you know? ;)

Headers aren't out yet for the 1.8L motor. But if it ever does come out, it will cost around $450. Pullies cost around $200-250 for the set.

Here is a short summary of what the different parts will do for you since you are new to the performance scene.

Cold Air Intake: Relocates the air filter into your fender so that it can get a lot more cold air while you drive. Colder air equals denser air which equals more horsepower. Plus, it's a straight pipe to the engine so you definitely get smoother flow of air. Kinda like you have bigger nostrils to breath better.

Headers: After you breath in all this air, and the combustion has taken place, the exhaust air needs a way to escape. The headers are the series of pipes that lead the exhaust gases out of the engine cylinders to the exhaust.

Exhaust: A larger diameter exhaust without all the extra chambers for sound deadening will give you free-er flow of exhaust gases out. ALso reduces backpressure for more Horsepower.

Pullies: Since the engine has to drive the accessories like water pump, alternator, and power steering pump, these accessories drain energy from the engine crank. The underdrive pullies reduce the amount of energy that is needed to drive these accessories, thus freeing up energy for the engine to make more hp.

Also, going with a Turbo is going to cost you around $3000-5000. Maybe even more because your engine may have to be strengthened in order for the turbo to be installed. I don't know how strong the internals of the 1.8L are.

You can also go with Nitrous Oxide...this is the most bang for the buck but if not installed properly or used properly, it can blow up your engine :)

You think the XE is bumpy- you should ride in my SE w/performance package read:stiffer shocks & springs, lowered two inches!! The dealer added a bunch of notes on the bottom of the work order when they lowered it for me about how it can bottom out over bumps, and how the ride will be harsh- they could have just said "Your car now rides like a truck". But I can corner like no-ones business, so it's a good comprimise. I'd get the CAI to start- good bang for buck. You might want to consider the AEM bypass valve if you do, though. Hydro-lock is not a pretty thing.
