Hey everyone,

I want to redo my brakes. The little saucer plates are looking a bit sad inside the 18s. I'm wondering what sort of bigger set-ups still exist besides a used pair of brembo's up front. I'm having trouble finding anything.

Also, with regards to the title, I've been looking at rotors on this site and they cite 03-06 Spec V: http://www.mosaicmotorsports.com/power-slot-front-c-3612_22693_23083_23108_23109_23110.html

Perhaps they are mistaken...but I want to be sure.

02 specv is the same as the 03 specv, and as far as brakes and hardware, they are the same as 04-06. however, big brakes dont fit under the 02-03 specv wheels without an offset.

if you want a bigger brake setup, you will need more offset wheels. you can also look up info for the 300zx 26mm swap, i think its the cheapest big brake swap.

Does the offset only apply to the stock 17" rims? Or is that a requirement of any rim that fits onto the 02 sentra?

yes, you need at least 04-06 specv wheels to clear the big brakes.

otherwise, 02-03 specv wheels, or smaller wheels may have fitment issues. the 02-03 specv wheels dont clear the 300zx or brembo calipers, so you need to offset them with spacers if you want to use those wheels.

Okay. I don't actually have the stock Spec V 17s. I have 18" wheels so I guess I'll have to do some measurements myself to make sure the brakes will fit.

i believe on the inside of one of your wheels should be some numbers, usually behind one of the spokes. you'll be looking for at least 42 offset, there's a wheel size guide around somewhere as well that will help you with measurements.

Is that offset number specifically for the Brembo option? Or were all big brake kits created at that offset number as well?

Yeah, I found the guide. It should be stickied! Haha.

Anyway...checked my offset. The RHs are sitting at +44. Does that give me pretty much free range on my shopping choices?

i believe +44 gives you a good amount, you should be able to fit the 300zx or the brembo's in there, not sure about other bigger brake setups. if your rim hits the caliper you could always use a 5mm spacer as well, then you should clear without issues.

Thought I would check out the dealership to see if they had them. I guess Nissan can still get a hold of the Brembo package. However when I mentioned that I had an 02, they said I would need new cylinders and lines.

Is this absolute crap?

no, it sounds like something any dealership would tell you ;)

you may not need lines or cylinder, but the cylinder maybe old, the new calipers will require more power for braking.

i believe you can order the kit from 2jr or fi-r and get a small discount, dont forget, the 04-06 brembo are bigger than the 00-03 brembos. you should fit the 04 kit with your +44 wheels.

Oh, I wasn't aware that there was a size difference between the two yearly differences. So, if you wanted brembos in 2002 did you have to buy Nismo wheels as well?

i test drove a sentra, before i bought my new sentra, that had brembos on it with stock 17" 2002 specv wheels. i think it may have been a dealer option or aftermarket brembo kit. everyone will tell you the factory brembo kit is for 04-06, so most likely thats the kit you will be getting, unfortunately, the 02 specv wheel wont fit the 04 brembos. but i mean, i couldve gotten leather specv seats instead of my red/lava seats, but everyone will tell you otherwise ;) so the leather seat covers, 02 brembos are very hard to find, i dont think they make those new. i had the option to add these when i bought the car new from the dealership.

you have 18s with plenty of offset, the 04 kit is what you should get since it will fit. all the other brake parts and hardware is identical between 02-06 specv's. all the brake hardware from 2000-2006 will also fit your car, im not sure if the calipers and rotors are same size tho.

the seats i had the option for were all black, those look like aftermarket leather covers, which come in yellow blue and red. the all black nissan ones would replace and zip in the same places as your stock seat cover. so in my case, i have the lava mesh seats (red and black kinda like picture of leather seats), i would need to remove the lava seat covers and put on the leather seat cover. if i remember correctly, the nissan leather seats had 'se-r' stitched into the seat on the back top area.

02-03 were never offered with the brembo brakes. You can order them from the dealer and retrofit them. They bolt on with no issues all you need is
both calipers
rotors
4 pins
4 cotter pins
pads
and 2 pad pressure plates (not sure the name).

You do not need to swap out lines or anything else.
Also the rear rotors on brembo equiped specs are slightly larger and will not fit the non brembo specs and vice versa.
You can order the brembo kit from
gspec.com
or from your dealer, I believe each one costs $250
2j-racing.com offers an alternative kit from willwood that is smaller and allows a bigger wheel option when it comes to offsets.
They also offer a big brake kit for the rears of non brembo specs.

Well, I found some local Brembo calipers from an 04'. I'm going to go with 2jr's set-up in the back for non-Brembo Spec Vs. You can expect pics once all the work is done.
