I know they got rid of the dual runners and switch to a plastic intake to solve the butterfly screw problem, but did they ever really solve the pre-cat issue? As far as I know they still haven't added an EGR valve. Maybe they're making the new pre-cat's better so that they don't turn to dust as easily. I would hope that they've really fixed it since I think it's been the most common engine across the line up the last 5+ years. Due to the pre-cat issue I would avoid any car with the QG25DE like the plague.

I'm not looking for a car anymore, I'm just curious as to whether they actually fixed this.

they stopped qr25 production in sentras for 2012, at which it wasnt really fixed, just revised it. the 07-12 models still have these precat failure issues, and knock sensor issues. not sure about altima, but some altimas have the same issue, but only in north america.

I know the failures are most common in the SE-R's, probably because people who own SE-R's tend to drive hard. They aren't just using the QR25DE in the Sentra SE-R and Altima, but also the Juke, Rouge, Frontier and Xterra, which are heavier and sometimes have AWD/4WD. You'd think those would put a lot of stress on the engine too.

im not sure about the juke having a qr, thought it was only 1.6. but the rouge motor is very close to the sentra, and the frontier chassis as well, you can run frontier pistons, i believe the grade of the motor is different for the frontier chassis, also the gear ratios, wheel size, etc.

Looks like you're right about the Juke. Seems kinda small, but there is a turbo on some. Wikipedia lists 4 engines, but I don't know which ones are offered in the US.

I've heard that the internals of the current production QR25s are considerably different than the QRs with the "A" block designation. The newer QRs also don't share the same ECU units either. Don't try and think the 07-12 Spec V QR will work as a drop in. Nope.

I'm not looking to drop one into anything, I'm just wondering if they actually fixed the issues, or if these new engines will self-destruct at 100k miles like the older ones.
