Allrighty guys, I feel kinda lame for asking this question, but it's been a looong time since I've driven regularly, and I don't know if my car is louder than it should be.
Like when I drive my B15 aggressively, it sounds like it's working pretty hard. What's "too hard" for this engine? I basically drive like an old lady, but sometimes I get pissed and like to gun it. It feels so good to do that, but afterward I wonder if I pushed it too hard. I haven't redlined it yet, highest has been 5600 RPM.

Soooo, how loud are your guys cars when you gun it (stock, no mods), how's the volume at various RPMs, and what would you recommend I keep my ears tuned for as far as potential problem sounds?

When i punch it and the RPM go over 4000 the cabin fills with a loud growling. You need not worrying about pushing the engine too hard either as long as you have done your break-in period its ok to punch it. The sr20 is a very strong engine . It loves being revved

Got a question..
I was in a situation where it was either gun the motor or get into an accident. (incounter with a blue hair) To all the "blue hairs" if any, sorry for that discription :) any ways, I had to rev the engine to about 6000 or somewheres around that and it was when I was still in the break in period( around 800 KM ) Do you guys think that it would do any damage? The car is running fine but I am still in the " don't want anything to go wrong with the car" stage and was a little concerned.

heheh, don't worry about that, I think I worked the hell out of my eng. during the break-in period, I even took a 80 mile highway trip at about 80miles an hour. Just to let you know I just ordered the car, I did not even test drive it. I was amazed at how good the car handled and the growling of the sr20 is amazing. and now with CAI and soon with exhaust it is crazy how nice and loud it is.

I took the car to 5k in 3 gears to shut this trash talked in a black ex when I had 100 miles on the car. I kept it under 4k for the rest of the time until around 800 when I got the CAI. I got addicted to the sound. I have not encountered any damage at ALL! The car performs even better now that I have driven it enough. Right now my car is pretty loud but I like it that way, the stromung exhaust and PR CAI sound soooo sweet!

Don't worry bout it. This guy on Honda-acura.net took his GS-R to 8500 when he had 40 miles on the engine. He started to notice a shaking after that. The GS-R redline is at 8100. His only excuse was that he wanted to know if his vtec was working!

I told him to give that beauty of a machine to someone who would know how to care for it. I then told him to buy a Corolla!

LOLz quiet. I might end up buying a Corolla soon. Heheh j/p. :)

But seriously 8500 rpm just "to see if VTEC works" is just plain stupid. Pretty soon, I might be going to 7100 just to see if VTEC works. :D

*sigh* Torque... I'm gonna miss you.

Oh and to answer the original question, a stock sr20de growls like crazy when revved. It only gets better with mods. :)

*sorry for the rant*
