Hey I just picked up another 2003 spec v after being out of one for the past two years. I noticed that my butterfly valves aren't opening. Can't hear a sound like my last spec v. I can move the butterfly runner shaft by hand, however they don't open under WOT. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Planning on making sure they are loctited tomorrow. Thanks!

you would need to check the solenoid, and the wiring, there is a trouble shooting section in the fsm for the butterflies. i would assume its wiring or electrical if you can move the shaft by hand. are you having someone watch while another is pressing the throttle? the butterflies dont open under 5000rpm, unless youve changed/modified them, so its not just wot that triggers them.

Thanks i68k ill definitely check that out. Would the secondaries engage if revved to 5000 sitting still, or is it only while driving? If they do open I can have someone watch right now

they should open with you just revving, but like you said, you have to be near wot over 5200rpm. you can see it move at the right angle if youve removed the oem intake boxes. i think its 5200rpm, somewhere around there. did you check the fsm for this yet? i think there was a little troubleshoot and component listing in it.

I did check the fsm. I actually added an AEM short ram intake yesterday and they seem to be working fine. We couldn't hear or notice them at all before the short ram, however, I believe my exhaust was too loud overpowering their sound. Thanks for the help man! I guess I just had a little idiot moment.

the 2002-early2003 have quieter butterflies, the 03.5+ has a little more of a kick to it and its louder when the butterflies open, possibly the exhaust was muffling your butterflies ;)
