Tomorrow my car will reach the broken in mileage and I'm so excited. I have been driving around a lot in the last 4 days to try to get to the magic number of 1000 miles so that I can get to the good stuff. So far I'm at 925. It has been really hard keeping at or below 4000rpm.I'm wondering if 1000 miles is enough or should I wait a little longer?

That should be enough. I tried 5000 rpm right after break-in period and...well. It was LOUD. Mmmmmm....Satisfying.

I only waited for around 800 miles to seriously take it to redline in every gear maybe less. I actually raced it after 100 miles on it, but I only took it to 5k in every gear. I don't believe in the break-in period, I drove it how I wanted to after 500 or so miles and I don't have any problems to this date to speak of.

There's no magic #. but.. you should not immediately go from 4000 rpm to 7000 rpm because the wear points at the top of the cylinder are based on no more than 4000 rpm. This is probably overkill but I plan on moving up gradually.

But you have to remember I'm an old man. I have mine 2 months now and still isn't broken in. I don't drive for the fun of it anymore- I drive to go from place to place. SE is a great car though- good luck with it!!

Well I did it. I broke in my car. I didn't drive it that much today because my mom wanted to drive her car but I did reach the magic number and a little beyond. I currently have 1020 miles on it. I didn't push it much yet but when I did, OMG I loved it. I can tell so much difference over my old car and its great. I'm so happy to get back to my normal way of driving, meaning, not having to watch the tach. To everyone who hasn't broken in their cars yet, DO IT , I promise you will love it.

Can we add "What is a break-in period?" to the faq section? As suggested I would work my way up to the redline gradually, although I don't think it will necessarily take another 1000 miles.

I wish my garage included '67 Toyota 2000GT, several years of 240Zs, my crunched '85 Supra, the last Supra and 300ZX Turbos, Lotus Elise, and my first, a '79 Celica GT.
