I bought a 2002 Sentra SE-R yesterday with a blown engine. The serptentine belt had broken on the car and the engine was quickly overheated, and locked up. I took the engine out today and took it apart. I only found a few problems.

The crankshaft main bearings are good, the cylinder walls are good. The head is straight and will be sent out to be pressure checked, but I would venture to say it's good. It bent #4 rod when that rod bearing spun, and all the rest of the rod bearings are pretty bad. The crank is likely shot, as is the rod bearings. The pistons and everything else look great. Even the rings look good.

I'm planning on rebuilding this engine. I need a new crankshaft, rods, main & rod bearings, and a head gasket. What are my cheapest options here? I bought this car to give it to my sister for free, so I don't want to spend $1200+ on a used engine. It's actually cheaper for me to purchase a complete 07 Altima engine, but I need to know if the crankshaft and rods will interchange. Otherwise, what other options do I have on buying a crank kit? It's after 5 and most places are closed, so I have to wait until tomorrow to call around. I thought I'd come to the experts.

I'm not sure if the block interchanges between the B15 ('02-06) and B16 ('07-12), but I know the crankshaft, rods and pistons are interchangeable. I believe you'll need the balance shaft removal kit, though, because the '07 and up crank is internally balanced, unlike the '02-'03.....

dikd you check RockAuto? not sure if they have a crankshaft.

they do have cranks- and one comes with bearings- no rods, though!

I actually found a local place that has 5 good engine blocks for $350 each. I think I'm going to go check them out. If they're junk, I'll have to check out rock auto's crank kit.

i just got my new engine, taking the old one out this upcoming week... my new engine has a warranty for 2 years so i have no need for the old internals, if this one blows i get a new one free. i'll be selling the old internals that are still good... crank should be fine, and 3 of the rods should be fine...
its an '02 with 99K... let me know if you're interested in taking a look, i'll send you pics when its apart.
