Hello folks,

My 2006 Sentra 1.8S Special edition is close to 90K. I went to our local mechanic for some basic inspections and oil change. He suggested me that following things need to be done. The following prices include the cost of the part+labor ($98/hr)

- Power Steering rack, $600
- Brake hoses, $350
- Suspensions, $1200

I am just curious if these are fair prices to do the job. I can't find these options on repairpal.

Plus, my car is not worth more than $6000, so is it worth spending this much money on this car?

Thanks in advance.

holy crap! $98/hour? thats something like what the dealership would charge!

im guessing your not doing any of this work yourself? if it were me, i would talk to some other mechanics, maybe find one who knows about nissans and charges $60-$75/hour.

ive never changed the steering rack, so im not sure all the work involved. the brake hoses are easily done on the next brake job, as they will be accessible, just a matter of rebleeding each corner once you put the new lines on. as for the suspension, you can get a bc racing suspension for $1000, and it installs in something like 6 bolts per corner.

really it depends on how long you intend on keeping this car. im not sure if there is something really wrong with those parts, i cant see them in person, but the only thing i would have them do is the steering rack, assuming there is something actually wrong with it. your brake hoses are probably dry rotting, get some stainless braided brake lines so they dont dry rot. as for the suspension, i have about 268,000 miles on my suspension, nothing wrong there other than a little extra body roll.
