Anyone have new info on the QR25DE?

Hey folks,

My virgin post to this board, I'm from the CEG group (www.contour.org). I currently own a 99 SVT Contour and I've been keeping myself informed about the upcoming 2002 SE-R Spec-V model.

I know from SCC and other sources that the existing SR20DE engine can take a lot of abuse (read forced induction) without the need to modify engine internals. While I realize the 2002 SE-R isn't even out yet, I'm curious to know if the QR25DE engine that will power the newer SE-R's has ever been used in other Nissan products and if so, will it be as "bulletproof" as the older SR20DE engine?

I like the look of the 2k2 SE-R Spec-V and the price especially, but I'd want to go FI eventually and don't want the worries of serious engine reliability problemas.

Vortech just released an SC kit for my SVT but it is SO new and I'm REAL hesitant to FI my engine b/c Ford's never been known for over-building engines like many of the Jap manufacturers!

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Board!

Information on the new motor is in short supply. Aside from some pictures and basic data, no one really knows what to expect from this new engine. It has not been used in any Nissan product (US or Jap model) before.

The SR20DE is a bullet proof motor, but it looks like 2001 will be it's last year for use in North America. The new QR motor will replace it in 2002.

It is unknown whether the new motor will be the workhorse the SR20DE has proven to be.

I don't understand???????? Why did not Nissan go with the 3.0 L engine for the SE-R they use in the Maxima. Let me guess: they don't want to upstage the Maxima right?? No wonder Nissan was close to going broke.

Gee, I had the opposite reaction totally.

I thought a 2.5 was pretty big for the size of car the 2002 Sentra is going to be.

3.0 would have been way overkill.

But how much power does it make? I am sure you know that, generally speaking, Japanese cars have a much higher horsepower/liter ratio. My 1.6 makes nearly as much power (or more in a couple of cases) as some 2.2+ liter American engines.
Thats true. But we're not talking CORSICA Hertx Rental Cars here. Mine will make 160 Hp at 4600 rpm. So the 2.5 will make what? 180 Hp at say 6400 rpm. With less torque- at a stop light its gonna be close. My point is- a 3L would be nice at 220 Hp. Regular pocket rocket. Having said that - You are probably rignt.

NOPE. the 3.0 will not fit...i can say that saftly...cause i have both cars. and when i work on both and have both hoods up...the 30 is HUGE. gonna need atleast a midsize car to fit it in..if that. i agree with the sr20de being the most reliable engine i beleive outthere. its a tie between the b16. i dont know if the qr engine will be reliable...but all nissan engines have been realible...so no worries in that it can take some FI abuse itself in the future
