hi all...I'm just about to buy a 2001 SE 5spd perfomance package. unfortunately i am having a hell of a time finding one with the ABS option. I need this car before May for my job. Any suggestions about finding one with ABS in the Chicago or Urbana/Champaign area? And if i cant, is it really that important of an option on this car, being as it is relatively light and all. Thank you all for your help.

I've been driving for twelve years and owned nine cars without ABS. I'm alive enough to post.

------------------
I'm not afraid of the redline, reaching it before I pull the lever. A Chevy owner found this out in a side-street race endeavor. At 6500 RPM my Jap 4-banger flew on by him. As the man shook his head he knew he'd ben bettered. He stuck his head out of the car and yelled "Man, that thing can REV FOREVER!"
don't worry bout it.

SR20DE..Sorry Si guys.
Forgot to mention-I lived in Northern Ohio for a lot of that driving time. I can definitely relate to driving in snow and sliding helplessly on ice.

I wouldn't worry about the ABS either the car has a good enough braking system not to worry

Driving Illini: It is definetely an up-hill climb trying to find one with ABS. Personally I have called or been to 3 or 4 dealerships in Chicago and can't hardly find any. I'm going to have to have the dealer order it special. If you are in the Chicago area, the place that I found that seemed to have the most SE's was Woodfield Nissan in Schaumburg. That's where I'm getting mine.

What is wrong with Nissan/dealers? Did they not think that ABS would be a sought after option? I can understand the thinking in not having alot of the "other" trims of Sentras with ABS for people concerned about cost, but one would think that if someone is going to shell out the money for an SE w/pp that just maybe they would be willing to spend the $500 bux or whatever it is on the ABS, especially for the safety reasons. It would be different if it were sunroofs or 6-disc changers that were rare--who really NEEDS those things, but ABS is a different animal.

Hope the search goes well, and sorry for the rant

Late.

Thank you for the suggestion puckfreak. I will definately look into that.

And as far as I've heard from dealers, they just take what nissan sends them for the most part. So, apparently it is nissan that doesnt think the american market wants ABS on their sporty sentras.
