Well, I'm not kidding. At the very latest, by the end of this week, I will hopefully be behind the wheel of a sentra se w/ perf pack. I have 3 questions though (i'll go do a test drive and will find out myself, but want to know):

1. why aren't mud guards allowed if you have the perf package? is it because of the lowered profile?

2. how often does the cabin microfilter require replacing?

3. how good is the shift-stick? ie. is it low profile, or is it high-ride?

I'm debating whether to get auto or manual, and arguments on both side are driving me insane! On one hand, I don't care for shifting gears all the time while being stuck in traffic, on the other hand, it is almost a sin to buy a car with this rocking engine and not go manual.

What's the opinions out there? Is the clutch/gear smooth enough to drive?

1. The mudguards aren't available for the SE because it has these Side sill extensions. You can still put the rear mudguards on...its only the front ones that won't fit.

2. I have no idea on the microfilter. It's probably not all that often. Think about it this way. How often do you change your engine air filter? I'd probably replace the microfilter about that often.

3. Go with the Stick. An automatic in an SE is a crime. The Clutch is smooth, and it is a joy to drive.

BTW, Welcome to the Board!! I used to live just north of you in San Luis Obispo.

that will clear up alot of questions

1. why aren't mud guards allowed if you have the perf package? is it because of the lowered profile?

no, the side sills interfere with the mudflap mounts.

2. how often does the cabin microfilter require replacing?

no idea off the top of my head. wife has my carand owner's manual today.

3. how good is the shift-stick? ie. is it low profile, or is it high-ride?

well, it's not a truck shifter, but it's no miata shifter either. it's comfy, but a short shifter is a welcome upgrade.

manual will alow you to access the upper rpm range much more efficiently than an auto. i prefer a manual myself.

Is the clutch/gear smooth enough to drive?

smooth like butta. hydraulic clutch, not a cable.

First off, get the manual gearbox! I had to get automatic beacuse my fiance and I share this car and she can't drive stick (some consider this grounds for not getting married). It is the first automatic car I've owned. I'm disappointed every day I get in that car. If you get stick and don't like it, I'll trade you.

Second, the mudgaurds won't fit on an SE w/PP because of the lower side sill extensions. They didn't design them to fit over them. This pissed a lot of people off. You can put a pair on the back though.

Last, I believe the micro-filter only needs changing once a year. You don't have to buy it from the lot that way, you can always buy a filter from the parts department later and pop it in.

One more thing, I would only reccomend buying now if Nissan is doing their 3.9% financing for five years. They do it all the time and you'll kick yourself if you don't wait till then. I did.

The in-cabin micro filter requires changing about every 6 months and they run about $25 bucks and you can pick them up cheaper at www.courtesyparts.com

Get the manual. Trust me on this. An auto SR20 IS a crime. Someone cuff me and lock me away for choosing the auto at the last minute...

Tranny swap, anyone? :D

That's the exact reason why I didn't try for a black one. I came from a black 92 Topaz that I could never keep clean. I wanted blue, but alas, it wasn't available for the SE's. I settled for Heatwave, as is apparent.

As far as clor, I would stay away from the black because as mentioned, you can't keep 'em clean and they get H-o-t. White gets boring-believe me. I got the capppuccino. I wanted the Radium, but it wasn't available. I now really like the color I have and would not trade. I assume you made your choice on the trans and chose the manual. I think it's a good choice. I assume you considered whether anyone (significant other) needs to drive the car and can drive stick. I would have loved the stick, but the car is my wife's - Believe it or not she drives stick well but at 55 years old wasn't interested-damn.

Good luck.

Hey foggy,

If you decide to go with automatic (which I think you should), look at my car for sale in the classifieds. I'm selling it for a good price and it has the rare ABS package too.
