4,100 mile Dealer Check-up?????

671 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  adc100
I've heard that there are some special additives in our oil from the factory that need to be drained and serviced by the Nissan technicians. Is there any truth to this? Up to this point I chnged my oil at 500 miles, 1000 miles, and 4100 miles. Could I have caused any harm by not letting the Nissan Techs do their deal? What can occur if this service is performed????

It's my guess that the origional oil is just plain oil. In any event-all modern oils can effectively break in vehicles. In the old days rings needed hundreds of miles to seat. Those days are gone. If your vehicle uses no oil and you were careful during your first couple thousand miles, you are home free. I changed to Mobil 1 at 30 miles. 2300 miles later the oil is so light I can barely see it. It has used zero oil. I plan on changing every 7500 miles. I would switch to syn and save lots of oil changes.

Mobil has run tests where they changed oil every 15,000 miles and after 200,000 miles all engine wear parts came up to specifications for n-e-w parts. They also have done 25,000 mile change tests. I change oil for my kids cars and mine (7 cars total.) I change once a year and a filter at 6 months. I don't like go gover say 12 thou. on a change. To avoid the warranty issue I won't go over 7500 on the change for the SE. There's no question in my mind that a syn oil change at 7500 is better than a conventional oil change at 3000 mi. Since I am not sure of quality of the Nissan filters, I may throw on a new filter every 3000 miles.
