it's basically just a rumor,,,but it is always good to make sure your gas cap is on tight,,,because of the fact that it puts a pressure seal....so no air comes in or out....
My wife has a 97 dodge stratus and we keep getting a check engine light and we brought it to the dealer and had it checked out and the computer was reading a problem in the fuel system so he went over everything and finally he checked the gas cap and it was loose barely on,,,and he closed it and reset the computer and boom all set.......he said it was picking up the fuel system had a leak...
