215/50/16 tire upgrade on SE???

1198 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Chip
I'm gettin a new Sentra Se tommorrow and I wanted to upgrade the tires. I was thinking of the BFG VR4 T/A tires. I've read that the 215/50/16 KDS will fit, so I assume the VR4s will too. But tirerack thought they wouldn't, can someone tell me what size will fit before I order new tires? I don't want to buy new wheels either.

I wouldn't go over a 205 width. I don't know of anyone on the board that has 215's installed on the stock rims. I'd listen to the Tirerack on this one.

Everyone here is running either 205/50 16's or 205/55 16's.

yeah, i've been thinking about the same exact thing. in theory it sounds like it would work well, but i havent talked to anybody that has used that size tire on stock rims yet. i hope somebody on here knows.

why wouldnt the 215/55 16's work?...sidewall height is almost identical to that of the stock rims where as the 205's would change it a bit. why would the 20 mm extra width cause that much of a problem?

You have 7 inch wide, aftermarket rims. :) The Stock 16's are 6 inches wide I believe. It makes a big difference.

The optimal size would be a 205/50R15. Going to a 215 would look a little weird on a six inch wide rim. I am also willing to bet the 205/50 costs less because it is a more common tire size.

I would recommend the 205/50/16 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. They are GREAT tires! They have a 300 tread wear rating, and very grippy. They hook up great at the track and there is NO slippage or squeals around tight corners. Rain performance is equally as great and we in Austin just went through what seems to be a Monsoon! I would definately recommend these tires to anyone! Plus they have a nice tread pattern. I got mine for $82 a tire at Discount Tire.
