I can't find any info on this engine other than the size. Is the same/similar 1.8 used in the B15, i.e. iron block/aluminum heads? All aluminum? Would be nice if the torque was way down low like the QG18DE. And finally a six-speed, which this engine really needed.

Anyone?

2013 Nissan Sentra

Very pretty car.....just wonder how the "new" 1.8L stacks up against the old 1.8L from the B15. The new Sentra is rated at 39 mpg highway, which is pretty good.

Hey Jeff - we have the same car! Well, same color, year, 5-speed, and Synergy Package. Just went over 192k. Bought it new as well.

Love it, but it really needs a 6th gear. If I can go up a posted 4.5% grade in 5th with the cruise on 60 MPH and not even slow down, it can use an overdrive. An OD to drop it from 2600 RPM to about 2200 at 60 MPH for flat roads would be really nice. I'm getting real-world 37 MPG w/out A/C on to about 34 with A/C (or defroster) on - 90% highway at 60 MPH. I'd bet some sane driving in the new Sentra could easily get over 40 in the same driving scnario. Our cars are EPA rated at 27/35 under the 'old' method and 24/32 under the revised method.

I had to have my head gasket replaced (common problem with the 1.8L of our vintage) -- along with the water pump, spark plugs, all belts & hoses, thermostat, etc. I hope to get another 135k out of it and I am handing it down to my son in about a year and a half when he begins driving {Gasp!}.

It was repainted last spring and I had four new struts installed. My next thing is doing something about the wheels. I'll either get them powder-coated or spray paint them flat black. I just cannot ever get them to look "clean" at all, no matter what I use on them.

I get "average" mileage of about 30 mpg with fairly spirited driving. I have gotten 37 on a trip (65 to 75 mph constant) and the worst I have seen as 26 or 27 in a lot of city driving. Compared to my extended-cab, long-bed 2004 Silverado with a 5.3L V8, the Sentra is downright thrifty!! {Typically, the Sentra is my commuter car and the Silverado is my weekend toy.}

Glad to know you got 192k out of it so far. Any head gasket trouble?

Yes, the six-speed is relegated to the "base" model; much the same as the 2007 to 2012 Sentra. All others get the CVT 'automatic' tranny.

There is no "SE-R" model anymore, either. I suppose Nissan figures that you'll buy an Altima if you really want a 2.5L engine.

Hi Jeff:

No head gasket - yet. Pads and rotors at 90k, water pump (and belts) at 97k, rear shoes at 120k, idler pulley at 140k, clutch at 184k.

Didn't really need the clutch but it had to come out to get some fork thingy in the trans lubricated so replaced it anyway.

Also ECU was replaced under warranty - something to do with the foam insulation on the lid/cover but I don't have that in my maint. spreadsheet for some reason.

First replacement tires at about 70k and the second replacement set at around 140k.

Pretty good overall, I think. All electrical still works fine and is original. I'd buy another Nissan for sure.

PS: Not included are oil/filter/spark plugs. Also replaced all 4 hoses once.
