Hi,
I've been working on my brother's Sentra cause he said it stalled on him one day while driving it to work and couldn't get it to start back up, so I hooked up my code reader to it and it came up cam/crankshaft sensor problem. So I got the parts from O'Reillys and replaced them. After that, it cranked right up, drove it around for about 10 miles, came back and deleted the codes. The next day, he drives it and the same thing happened and getting the same codes. What else could it be?

did you get a cam sensor code, crank sensor code, or both? the gxe are known for cam sensor codes, i believe there is a recall for this, so you can check the vin in case the vehicle didnt get the recall. either sensor has similar symptoms, one prevalent symtpom for the crank sensor, is the tach reads 0 while the motor is running. otherwise youll have to check voltages and chase wiring, unless of course, you can relay all the ses codes. also, check the battery voltage motor on and off, make sure the terminals are tight and good ground contact, in case there is lack of voltage to these sensors. how does the car idle once its started? if idle is bad, and its drive-by-wire, you can try all 3 relearn procedures, and see how you make out. its possible the values stored in the ecu were way off from the previous bad sensors and didnt get enough driving time to reset/adjust.

Thanks for the reply. The first time i scanned it it was the cam and crank sensor. After I replaced the parts and erased them and it came back it showed P0340 camshaft position sensor. I did check with my Nissan dealership about the recall and gave them by vin number, but said that there were no recalls on it (which I know is a lie cause i checked my vin against the recall campaign bulletin and they matched). The tach seems to work fine as always and has never gave me any trouble and idle at start up seems normal. The negative battery cable terminal was pretty loose so I just replaced that today. I just read today that the replacement sensors were supposed to be metal not just plastic, so I ended up taking the sensor i got back to O'Reillys and got the kit from Nissan, (which was a waste of time cause those were plastic too), and installed them. I Erased the codes again, and the car seems to be driving fine now and like you said, maybe the ecu just didn't have time to adjust from the bad sensors. Just hoping it doesn't stall again!!

OK, I figured out what I did wrong. I mistaked the variable timing control sensor for the camshaft position sensor. I was wondering why the kit I got from Nissan had 3 sensors and not 2. So now I got all 3 sensors replaced and hopefully that does the trick!
