2002 GXE 1.8. 140k.

She shifts hard into 1st and 2nd (3500-4000rpms).

Sometimes shifting into 2nd the rpms will hang for a second.

At low rpms sometimes the rpm will jump causing my car to seem like im tapping the gas over and over.

Don't know if they are all related. Im at a loss. Any suggestions?

when was the last time you changed all your fluids, last tune-up? what have you tried to fix? does the motor idle correctly when in neutral? do you have any codes?

January was the last time the fluids were changed. Same time for tune up. Throttle position sensor, cleaned out throttle body. Ill have to check on the neutral idle. It doesn't idle normal in park though. No codes.

It might be worth noting the dealer flashed the tps for me. And couldn't replicate the issue.

did you use the correct atf? did you check the level? there's threads somewhere for which atf to use and a how-to somewhere.

auto is sometimes hard to diag without seeing in person. from here we cant tell if the motor is lagging, or something tranny related is causing the motor to lag. but if it doesnt idle normal in park, im guessing its motor control related.

have you done all your recalls?, changed the cam & crank sensors recently? have you checked for loose or cracked hoses, there's possibility of vacuum leak. anything from like a tps to iacv, egr, or pcv could cause the motor to not idle properly.

I retested the idle in neutral and in park. And they are both at 750 RPMs, for some reason I felt if I went it to park it was upwards of 1k.

I checked all my fluids, they are normal. When I have my inspection done, my mechanic flushes my tranny fluid so I doubt it has the wrong Tranny fluid in it.

All the recalls are done. I haven't changed any sensors besides the TPS. There's no cracked hoses. I put a new PCV in this year as well. Filters clean, Spark Plugs are properly spaced.

Come to think of it though, when my battery died last year I did get a code briefly for the idle air control valve, but my mechanic told me it was most likely just because of the battery dying, which didn't make sense. I'm going to test that with my fluke and clean that and the maf sensor as well.

!!! make sure you only use cnc maf cleaner to clean the maf !!! dont use anything else to clean the maf. other than maybe a qtip if its got debris stuck to it. make sure you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the maf, and make sure the maf is completely dry before reinstalling.

when you shift to park, or neutral, it should release load from the motor and cause a single rev to 1krpm, then should return to normal idle while still in park or neutral in a second or two. this is normal for automatic.

there are write-ups or how-tos on here somewhere on how to clean the iacv, you could try cleaning it and see if it changes anything before you buy another one.

when a battery dies, it doesnt put enough voltage to voltage specific sensors, causing the motor to run improperly. voltage specific sensors also include tps, maf, o2, etc. seeing that your battery died recently, check you battery voltage while the motor is on & off, to make sure its charging. a bad alternator will have the same effect as a dying battery.
