8500rpm capable QR engine.. :)

Ok, so I have been quietly doing some leg-work on building/offering high-revving QR engines.. These engines will be used either for N/A application or for a turbo/supercharged application. My plan, is to build the first engine, and sell/install it to a customer who's interested. The goal is to build an 83-8500rpm capable motor, that has a fat powerband. I have sourced some radical N/A cams and springs/retainers that will support this. The cams will be test units from JWT, as will the springs. Here's a breakdown on them.. and the round-about prices/options..

Stage I Combo:

Complete QR long block
Custom forged steel crankshaft
Forged rods
JE forged pistons 10.8:1
Metal headgasket
JWT balance shaft removal kit
Prototype cams (still streetable, but noticeably lopey)
Prototype springs/retainers
Machine work to cylinder head to fit new springs
Stock ports
Acid dipped block (to clean) and head
Full blueprint and balance upon assembly
New timing components, seals, o-rings, etc..

**This is the first stage of upgrades... The motor will rev to 7300rpm, and will make around 200whp/160ft lbs of TQ. You can spray up to a 50 shot on it safely. This motor is sold as an all motor application only. Although peak power is only 200whp or so... the powerband will be A LOT fatter than a stock QR with bolt on's. Displacement is a 2.0 liter

Price- 2950.00 shipped to your door (You must return your stock motor for exchange)

Stage II combo:

Complete QR long block
Custom forged steel crankshaft
Pauter forged rods with ARP bolts
JE forged pistons (8.5:1 or 10.8:1)
Metal headgasket
JWT balance shaft removal kit
Prototype cams (still streetable, but noticeably lopey)
Prototype springs/retainers
Machine work to cylinder head to fit new springs
Stock ports
Acid dipped block (to clean) and head
Full blueprint and balance upon assembly
New timing components, seals, o-rings, etc..

**This engine will rev to 8000rpm, and will probably make somewhere around 220whp/170-180ft lbs of TQ all motor.. and if low compression pistons are chosen, in a turbo/supercharged application, it can hold 350whp safely. The powerband will be incredible, considering how far you can rev it out to. The cams are streetable, and it will run on 93 octane. You will need a standalone to take advantage of the 8000rpm rev-limiter. The displacement, is a 2.1 liter

Price- 3790.00 shipped to your door (you send your old motor back for a core charge)

Stage III combo:

Complete QR long block
Aftermarket Ductile Iron T-Sleeves (closes the open deck)
Custom forged crankshaft
JE forged pistons (8.5:1 or 10.8:1)
Pauter forged rods with ARP bolts
Metal headgasket
Cylinder head studs
JWT balance shaft removal kit
Main bolt studs
Prototype cams (still streetable, but noticeably lopey)
Prototype springs/retainers
Machine work to cylinder head to fit new springs
Stock ports
Acid dipped block (to clean) and head
Full blueprint and balance upon assembly
New timing components, seals, o-rings, etc..

**With this next setup, we go in, and install ductile iron sleeves. This process involves cutting out the stock sleeves, and having a machine press in new sleeves. Then, the block is re-decked, and bored with a TQ plate to ensure the bores are perfectly centered. This makes for a MUCH stronger block that can withstand a lot more power than the Stage I block. This also allows us to increase the bore size signifigantly, effectively increasing displacement. We also add cylinder head studs, and main bolt studs for the increased load. This engine N/A, will make 220-230whp/170-180ft lbs.. however, you can spray up to 125hp shot of nitrous on top of this, and it will be completely safe (as long as engine management is tuned correctly). In a turbo application, this engine will make 400whp no problem with a disgusting powerband. Displacement is a 2.2 liter

Price- 4950.00 shipped to your door (You return your stock motor for core charge)

Stage IV Combo:

Complete QR long block
Aftermarket Ductile Iron T-Sleeves (closes the open deck)
Custom forged crankshaft
JE forged pistons (8.5:1 or 10.8:1)
Pauter forged rods with ARP bolts
Metal headgasket
Cylinder head studs
Main bolt studs
Prototype cams (still streetable, but noticeably lopey)
Prototype springs/retainers
Machine work to cylinder head to fit new springs
Fully ported race head
Custom short runner intake manifold
JWT balance shaft removal kit
Acid dipped block (to clean) and head
Full blueprint and balance upon assembly
New timing components, seals, o-rings, etc..

**This setup is the ultimate for a full-blown N/A monster.. or a big-dog turbo setup. This engine will rev to 8500rpm, and make 240-250whp all motor. With a 125shot maximum, expect to be around 330whp and 300ft lbs of TQ. In a turbocharged application, this setup will handle 500-550whp no problem. With the ported cylinder head, and short runner intake manifold, it will make awesome top end power whether is N/A or F/I. Displacement is a 2.3 liter

Price- 6950.00 shipped to your door (You return your stock engine for core charge)

I will start offering these in August.. as we are still ironing out a few details.. Just thought I'd pass the info on to you guys and get some feedback. Please don't ask where you can order seperate parts.. I have put a lot of work into this, and I don't plan on someone copying it before we even get it off of the ground. These motors will put the Spec V/SE-R into the spotlight for sure in the road-course and drag strip competition. Lookout K20.. the QR is about to get a dose of steroids.

Also, if you are interested in working with me on any of this, please contact me at [email protected]

ShizITE man. THis is going to be great. Good work there Mr. Burelle. These are definatley what we call "bulletproof motors". Wow these motors and a turbo kit would make some nice power. BUT the big question is.... HOw will you be able to rev to these points without an ECU?

For now... it will be with either a Haltech E6X, or a (more expensive) Electromotive TEC III. You can also use some of the cheaper 750-800.00 units from overseas. They work great for N/A and low boost turbo setups. Also, I am betting that by year's end.. JWT will have some good news for us.

Also, I may offer "do it yourself" kits in the future. These will reduce the cost of labor to do the machine work and installation that we charge.

Honestly, I think the prices are pretty good.... I think I remeber reading/hearing about the RTR Spec-V not revving so high simply due to the tranny.. any thoughts/knowledge on that Travis?

**edit..

Why only a 50shot on the stage 1 as well? I'd think with the forged rods there would be room for more spray, or are they not extraordinarily beefy?

Actually, the RTR suffers because it's still on the stock stroke (stock crankshaft). It can only rev so high before piston speeds go through the roof. Also, power falls off up there, because cylinder filling sucks at high piston speeds. The power levels that I posted are probably a little conservative.. considering a K20 will make 245whp with cams and bolt-ons.

You have to ship your stock engine to me.. This works on a core-basis. Meaning I have a few in stock, but have to replenish the stock block supply as I sell motors.

Wow! That's pretty good!

Former 2000 Nissan Sentra SE owner. Now I drive a little & underpowered "girly" NA8C car that can own many big & overpowered "manly" cars on a good chunk of canyon roads & road courses. Go NA8C! \(^o^ ) <3

Just wait.. I am putting one together for my old Sentra SE that's been sitting out back collecting dust for a year or so. It is fully gutted and will have the stage IV motor in it.
